I swore to myself I will get my first tattoo when tax return comes in and it has and it's time for a tattoo.

Speaking to my mates they are all saying you should get something that means something to you. Things that mean things to me are respect, courage and bravery. And I am stunned and can not decide thought it would of been easy to pick a tattoo but it is rather hard.

Is there an animal or a symbol that represents any of these??

I want a tattoo on my forearm, either one. Has anyone seen Dave Grohl's forearm tattoo? http://www.flickr.com/photos/a-k-photography/4686794342/

I want them but not sure if it's right to copy them. To me they represent being free in my eyes but probably mean something a lot different then my interpretation thank you all!

Re: Tattoo's

Each to their own I s'pose.... Maybe start with a tattoo not so heavy first, but up to you.

Re: Tattoo's

if you're getting a tattoo for the sake of getting a tat then it prob isn't for you. Your mates are right though get something that means something to you and do some research into artists before you go don't just wander into the first place you see and go with the apprentice.

Obviously depending on your job/future job consider that as well as it can have implications, I have 3 and you could never tell by looking at me because I picked things that mean something to me not to have hey look at me 'tuff stickers'

edit: DG's arm tats kinda suck surely you can do better than that but as has been mentioned each to their own

Re: Tattoo's

'Meaningful' LOL, nothing worse than somebody trying to justify a tattoo with that word. Not saying don't do it, each to their own and it's obviously 100% your choice, but get something that you think looks good and don't worry so much about any perceived 'meaning'

All my friends with tats have crap like 'Loyalty' and 'Respect' written on them and say they got it because they're 'meaningful' What a load of crap, just be honest and say you're getting a tat because you think they're cool as shit and you chose the one that looks the best.

Nah thats not what I want a tough sticker. Cant stand that. Thinking of a white rose to represent love and get my mums name in it. Similar to that http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=w...0&tbnw=227&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

Please give opinions it's out of this and the Feathers one

Re: Tattoo's

Perhaps get a barb wire tattoo on the forearm.

Yeh, my cousin got a tattoo on his arm of his mum's D.O.D because it looked cool.

The sentiment isn't lost on me, but I question why a tattoo is an appropriate form of expression. A commemorative plate or framed photograph has just as much value, I think.

Tattoos these days are just fashion accessories IMO. People decide to get tattoo's first, and then the 'meaning' behind it is secondary and purely justification. A guy at work has his sister's d.o.d on his neck....Why?

I'm not for or against tattoo's one way or another, but the thought process behind getting one is mind boggling.

Re: Tattoo's

IMO, the best tattoos you can get are frivolous. Nothing worse than a "meaningful" tattoo. Best tattoos I've seen/heard of are moustaches on the inside of an index finger (for putting up underneath the nose), centimetre rulers down the side of a finger (meaningless AND useful, double win!), fox chasing a rabbit down a hole (guess which hole?), that sort of thing.

Personally, I want to get a tattoo of a dot. Just a simple dot. Inconspicuous, pointless, mistakable for a mole, gotten purely for the purpose of experiencing what it is to have a tattoo, rather than any inherent meaning within it. I'd do the ruler or moustache thing but they're too conspicuous, I don't want to have that permanently visible on my finger.
