Walked out of the office onto North Tce, and seen maybe 500, 600 taxi's crawling along North Tce, horns blaring and lights flashing. They came down King William from Vic Square direction, and turned left onto North Tce. Check the news tonight, amazing scenes!

Apparently it's something to do with this: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,23720136-5006301,00.html

If they try and hire a lawyer to get whatever reforms they want, I hope the lawyer asks for a down payment then charges them 100 times the going rate plus a pick up charge, country rate and new 'taxi' levy.

I never catch a cab, but I have never heard anything but bad reports from people I know who use them. Some cant speak English, dont know where they are going etc..

I feel for the taxi drivers who have been attacked, nobody deserves that and I they are well within their rights to campaign for better rights. However, surely, there is a better way to go about it?

I watch them on tv and just think they are carrying on a bit to be honest. I think they have overdone it and they have taken away from their own cause.

Indians, and, for that matter, pretty much everyone else in the world, know how to protest better than Aussies.
The government could royally screw us over, and we wouldn't get close to seeing a molotov cocktail or a police car rolled over. At best there'd be a bit of a stroll down the main road. Unless it's thanks to some kind of backwards bogan racial tension (ie Cronulla), we just don't seem to give a shit.
Not that I'm condoning violent riots, but the taxi thing was pretty exciting!
When was the last time we had a good old fashioned flag burning?

Having said all this, an Indian co-worker reckons there's a fair amount of males back in India who will protest anything at the drop of a hat, and have effigies made for any occassion. They just like protesting, hence we see likenesses of our cricketers burned over what seems to be very little. I'm very surprised that no effigies have been burned in this latest incident, although I'm not surprised that they've managed to organise a rally without actually working out the specifics of what they want.

Forgive me, those who have been affected negatively by protesting such as this, but I find it a lot more exciting than the usual march down king william, planned in conjunction with the city 3 weeks in advance.

They also try to over charge you when youve had a big night out on the piss.

"Ohhhh there is a special fee in which because I pick you up from a regional distination (Hindley Street) you must pay $10 extra. Oh and your fare has been doubled because you live in a country zone (Mt Barker)"

The country zone bit is true. They double your fair. Its bullshit. Costs me $72 bucks to get a 25km cab trip. Its ____ed.
