Taylor Garner, Dandenong Stingrays, 8 Jan 94, 186cm, 77kg

Garner has reportedly "come from no-where" this year to be spoken about as someone who will probably be taken in the first round of the draft and is in fact being tipped to go top 10 in the two main phantom drafts here on this board.

Only started playing TAC Cup this year and did so well that he made the Vic Country team and then did so well there, despite dislocating his shoulder in the first game of the carnival, that he went on to be named in the All Australian team. Dislocated his shoulder 4 times during the carnival and even kept one of them to himself, so that he wouldn't have to miss any games, which shows the determination he has to succeed and the guts he has.

Ended up needing a shoulder reco, which kept him out of the finals and the combine testing, but will still probably be taken high.

Is renowned for his strong marking (including hangers) in the forward line, an ability to do freakish things that others wouldn't manage to pull off, his manic tackling and ability to also go onto the ball and win contested possessions. Knightmare likens him to Jimmy Bartel and chris25 likens him to Nat Fyfe.

Based on that video, I can see where the Bartel comparison comes from. Does he have any clear weaknesses?

Graeme Yeats (who coached him this year at Dandenong Stingrays) had this to say about him, according to Inside Football's draft edition: "Taylor jumped out of the ground this year. He didn't play as a 17yo because of injury and after getting injured this preseason he made it to round one and ended up getting picked in the national champs and was named All Australian despite playing with a dislocated shoulder. He's a 188cm player who plays as a hit-up forward but could certainly develop into a midfield type in time. His competitiveness is 11 out of 10 and he should go early."

Slight concern all the injuries he's been getting though. Last year, then in the preseason and then again during the season this year. That will most likely see him slip, like Stringer and Menzel, but the only question, if he does, is how much.

What would you like to know?
Anything that you believe will add to what we already know about him would be appreciated.

Great work by NMFC. I hope for the kid's sake his shoulders don't give him any more trouble. Nothing worse than seeing prodigious talent cut short by injury.
