ok.. im a primary school teaching student who needs to make a presantation next wednesday and i need to present many different forms of assessment and how you teachers record assessment and conduct different assessment practices. this is the assignment outlines.. thanks in advance if you can give me some help.. cheers BP

Aims

· Demonstrate a sound knowledge of Assessment
· Demonstrate ability to critically analyse assessment practices
· Plan and organize topic based discussion/teaching activities that shows engaged teaching
· Demonstrate effective communication skills with peers
Guidelines for Presentation

Each seminar will be 20 - 30 minutes in length. Students will be divided into peer groups of approx 4 people. Presentations will be individually made and assessment will be by peer and self.
The Task

1. Students will collect examples of assessment processes – formative and summative -during school experience from one year level (examples may come from either one or two classes only at the year level) and examples of teachers’ record-keeping techniques of these pieces of assessment’ (students’ names erased). (For students not involved in school experience this trimester, assessment tasks to be used may be sourced from national assessment plans such as NAPLAN and as negotiated with their tutor).

  • Students will present this set of assessment practices to their allocated group of students. During the seminar presentation they must describe the school context, identify the teacher purposes and the classroom implementation of the processes. Students will lead a critical discussion of these tasks.

If I read that right, you should have collected this stuff when you did your student teaching placement. Did you not do this?

sorry, should have explained in my op that i didnt do my placement this time around and i am doing it at the end of the year.

the uni lecturer has just said that i can collect any assessment techniques, involving formative, diagnostic and summative forms of assessment. really just need some ideas and talking points about anything regarding assessment and different techniques on assessment and how teachers assess students

I've got at least one text book on those subjects if you'd like to know the names to buy them?

You need to talk about stuff like running records; formal exams; informal and formal assessment; how the kids measure up against what is expected of their age group based on government standards - are they ahead or behind? how do measure this?; how do you measure progression? What were the kids like in their previous year - you need those records to see what they were doing then. Etc etc.

Assessment always foxed me too. When you go for a job, you'll be asked about assessment in detail, so you better start learning now. They don't teach you enough about assessment in teacher training, it's something you learn on the job. I was only ever a CRT so I never bothered with it that much.

I agree. I was certainly not prepared for how to assess effectively when I started with my first class this year. Definitely an important part of teaching and something you learn on the job. Uni certainly doesn't fully prepare you for the classroom
