Being a big Saints fan, I reckon I've got an excellent idea on which players are worth considering and which are not.
I reckon it might be a good idea if a supporter from each team does a run through. I'll start...
Saints
Nick Riewoldt: Get what u pay for. The only question is whether or not u can pick him up cheap after rd3. Historically he's a slow starter but if you want him, I'd go with him from the start... first full preseason in a while. Looks good.
Brendon Goddard & Lenny Hayes: Historical supercoach stars, don't rely on team mates to post high scores... both certainly worth considering pending who else you have. I'd certainly go Goddard in the backline, maybe better choices than Hayes at his price... sluggish pre-season too.
Nick Dal Santo & Leigh Montagna: Super players. I'm leaning towards skipping over both of them though purely because I don't know how Ball's departure will effect them. I doubt it will as he didn't play most of the 2nd half of the season but it's a risk i'd rather not take
Sam Fisher: Gilberts inclusion took a lot of points away from him. The word is he may be spending more time up forward or in the midfield... good enough enough to do it IMO but a major risk at his price.
Sam Gilbert: 1 sided... being corralled++. I'd miss.
Adam Schneider: Potentially a huge bargain. Looks to have improved his fitness base and has the kind of polish that makes him perfect for supercoach. I will watch him very closely over the next month.
David Armitage: Insane price... dunno how a guy that has played less than 5 games in 2 years can be worth over $400k. Huge risk at that price but locked into that midfield vacancy left by ball.
Ben McEvoy: IMO decent value for ruckman #3. Should take King's spot before the year is out
Jack Steven: A lot of hype all throughout the summer. Slight calf injury has put him back though. Will be after Milne's spot IMO
Rhys Stanley: potentially good value as 4th ruckman... looks very good but a long way away from regular games at this stage. Big smoky potential if he continues to improve
Alister Smith: Came from nowhere and looks good. Certainly good value at his price but pbly a few ahead of him atm
Peake, Dempster and Raph Clarke have the potenial to be big improvers but much safer options available at their respective prices.
