Or some other nifty title that has a good ring to it.

Anyway, something I've been thinking about doing and something that I haven't seen implemented as of yet is a team rankings system, that's able to judge how a team performs over the entirety of their span in the Sweet FA through a points system which I'm working on, but will likely be based on each team having a set starting figure and utilising something like this to adjust their points up and down based on form.

Though we know this game to be truly random it might be cool to see how this works, so I'll kick off this thread so that I've got my own little sandbox where I can do whatever - and of course, discuss it with whoever wants to discuss anything. :thumbsu:

Season 1
Rich (BB code):
Team Start End Change Pos H+A
TEAM KOURNIKOVA 1500 1720 +220 2nd 1st
SEVENTH WONDERS 1500 1696 +196 1st 4th
BIGFOOTY DRAGONS 1500 1504 +4 3rd 2nd
TEAM PUMP 1500 1425 -75 4th 3rd
PAGAN DUCKS 1500 1411 -89 --- 6th
TEAM TIMMY 1500 1387 -113 --- 5th
DINGOES 1500 1351 -149 --- 7th
Slight tweak of the formula and now there's some more consistent and logical results and points changes.

It's worth noting that Team Pump were fourth on 1490 points prior to the finals series - a 42-point loss at home to the Wonders (1539) caused a fair drop.

Season 2
Rich (BB code):
Team Start End Change Pos H+A
TITANS 1720 1693 -27 4th 3rd
RAZORS 1500 1646 +146 3rd 4th
SEVENTH WONDERS 1696 1629 -67 2nd 1st
HURRICANES 1500 1597 +76 1st 2nd
BIGFOOTY DRAGONS 1504 1503 -1 --- 7th
TEAM PUMP 1425 1465 +40 --- 5rd
DARKNESS ETERNAL 1500 1398 -102 --- 6th
PAGAN DUCKS 1411 1335 -76 --- 8th

Interesting game that I first saw was the second-last final between the Wonders (1625) and Razors (1643). The Wonders were ranked lower and won but lost one point. That's a sneaky little home ground advantage in the formula giving extra kudos to the Razors for coming so close at a tougher venue (this isn't represented in the sim, rather added for realism). Though it's probably a tad harsh on the Wonders, it does cancel itself out in the long run...probably.

Season 3
Rich (BB code):
Team Start End Change Pos H+A
WEST COAST MAGIC 1500 1821 +321 1st 3rd
MT BULLER DEMONS 1465 1795 +330 2nd 1st
HURRICANES 1597 1743 +146 3rd 2nd
TITANS 1693 1683 -10 4th 4th
DARKNESS ETERNAL 1434 1510 +76 --- 6th
SEVENTH WONDERS 1629 1447 -182 --- 9th
ROYS FFC 1500 1437 -63 --- 7th
JUNKYARD DOGS 1500 1384 +13 5th 5th
FIGHTING FURIES 1500 1365 -135 --- 10th
RAZORS 1646 1347 -299 --- 8th

The Dogs in eighth is the most interesting, but there's more 60-point drops from losses to teams like the Wonders and Magic (who were 1589 at Round 13, and surged through the finals) versus 20-point gains.

The Demons reached the highest score seen yet, with 1872 at the conclusion of round 15. They then lost 33 points off a 15-point home win over the Wonders...they were dwelling down the 1300-mark prior to that, so on form the victory should've been greater.

Season 4
Rich (BB code):
Team Start End Change Pos H+A
MT BULLER DEMONS 1795 1804 +9 4th 3rd

BIGFOOTY BOMBERS 1500 1732 +232 2nd 1st
BLUES BROTHERS 1500 1699 +199 3rd 2nd
SEVENTH WONDERS 1447 1556 +109 5th 4th
FIGHTING FURIES 1365 1528 +163 --- 9th
ALBERTON SWAMPRATS 1500 1526 +26 7th 6th
FREMANTLE DOCKERS 1500 1412 -88 --- 10th
TITANS 1683 1396 -287 6th 7th
RAZORS 1347 1391 +44 8th 8th
JUNKYARD DOGS 1384 1359 -25 --- 12th
GEELONG GUMBIES 1500 1319 -181 --- 11th
WEST COAST MAGIC 1821 1225 -596 --- 13th

Yes, West Coast dropped 596 points. Here's their end-of-round scores over the season:

GEELONG GUMBIES 1319 1549 +230 3rd 2nd
SEVENTH WONDERS 1556 1482 -74 5th 5th
TITANS 1396 1443 +47 6th 4th

BIGFOOTY BOMBERS 1732 1114 -618 --- 12th

BigFooty Bombers go 3-19 and West Coast's record drop of 596 points doesn't last very long at all. Here's their season:

It's also interesting to note three sides - Demons, Roys, Razors - finishing quite highly in the rankings. The Demons went 11-11 but finished with the fourth-highest percentage in the competition, and as this is a margin-based calculation it sits in their favour, as does a strong starting score. The Roys are similar, finishing 10-12 and with a percentage of 100.34%, and even the second-biggest drop saw their starting score of 1764 only leave them in fifth on the rankings.

The Razors are an interesting case. Finishing 11-11 with an okay percentage would suggest minimal change. I think it's a combination of 'good' losses against decent sides (see a one-point loss to the Wonders (1550) in round three, giving a 28-point rise) as well as timing themselves, winning four of their last five to jump 131 points.

Quiet bump.

I've updated all the points up to the Season 16 Grand Final - finally - and I'll chip away at posting them all up soon. The cricket being halted helps...
