Teams outscoring total oppostion score in each quarter

Last night the Crows scored a total of 24 points.

In each quarter the Saints scored more than 24 points. I'm sure this has happened before especially in the early years of the VFL but when was the last time it happened?

One would think it was the night in 2009 when Fremantle only managed 1.7 against Adelaide.

Adelaide 5.4 5.5 2.5 7.2 (19.16)
Fremantle 0.1 0.0 1.4 0.2 (1.7)

It's happened 30 times, last was indeed Ade. v Fre. Highest score to suffer the fate, Melbourne's 48 in 1979 vs Fitzroy (7.7 14.14 26.17 36.22)

Thanks.

I was just happy to see the Saints score in every quarter.

Interestingly, the Saints have done this to the Adelaide Crows before. The game was their very first meeting 20 years ago at Moorabbin, in Round 7 1991:

St Kilda 7.3 14.7 18.17 24.18-162
Adelaide 0.1 1.7 2.7 4.7-31

St Kilda's 3/4 time score in that match was 18.14 not 18.17 so they only equaled Adelaide's score in that quarter. Round 18 2011 was the first time St Kilda has scored more each quarter than their opponent's score.

Scroll down to the end of this page and there is a table of how many times it has been done.

My Dad told me last week that this was the first match I had ever attended as a 3yr old.

Apparently Plugger kicked 12 (or so Dad recalls).

Melbourne scored 7.5 47 for the match against Geelong.

Geelong's scores per quarter were 8.3, 12.1, 8.4, 9.3 Surely would this have to be the highest scoring match where this has occurred???

All the others have been very low scoring, would 47 be the highest total to actually have each quarter been higher??? if that makes any sense?

Even when Geelong kicked 37.17 against the bears, the bears still manged 11.9 for the game which was more than what Geelong kicked in the first and 3rd quarters.

Melbourne's 6.12-48 in round 17 1979 (the 190 pt loss) is the highest final score outscored in each quarter.

Fitzroy scored 49, 49, 75 and 65.

Geelong 2011 is the first team to score 50 or more points each quarter.

Players always claim never to be aware of these things.
Otherwise Geelong may have conspired to rush two more behinds for Melbourne.
the record referred to there is a pretty obscure one. i doubt the players would've been aware of that.

however some (not many) would've known the overall points record and margin (239 and 190) off the top of their heads... those that didn't know would've been made very aware by the runners/coaches at 3 quarter time or into the last quarter.

Steve Johnson said he didn't know that they were within a goal of the highest score and winning margin until he came off the ground just before the siren, although he sensed the crowd were aware of something going on with the scores.

Hawthorn Port 4 weeks in a row!

The AFL working on a vaccine to stop the spread?

Meanwhile another take:

Hawthorn's win over Port Adelaide was the the 5th win this year where each quarter was won by 3 goals or more.

The most in a season previously was 4 in 1994.

There have been a total of 69 matches in VFL/AFL history where each quarter was won by 3 goals or more. Geelong has won the most, 10 followed by Nth Melbourne 9 and Collingwood 7. Yesterday's win was Hawthorn's 6th in this category.

Port Adelaide is the first to suffer defeats in this manner in consecutive matches.
