Why would Terry go against his own recipe for a premiership by recruiting, say, an Aker or a Michael? If they're contemplating it, I'd be astonished. These are his thoughts on lists and what it takes to win a premiership. Thanks to MT for the steal from OER.

http://oneeyed-richmond.com/forum//index.php?topic=3492.0

This was Terry’s criteria on how build a premiership team just a couple of weeks ago on Fox. If he's looking to set them up for a decade of success, you wouldn't even contemplate these two.

1. Having majority of players in the right age bracket – ideal 22 to 26
2. 3-4 regular under 22 years of age.
3. Some senior citizens, ie paul Williams, Alistair Lynch – the elite like Rob Harveys.

His thoughts on Richmond:

Richmond – 7 in the under 22, - not enough in 22 to 26 – Cogs and Newmo long term injury has hurt us. Ageing stars well over 26. Have a go at a premiership while they’re around but have enough of a group coming through to challenge themselves. He’s looking to set Richmond up for a decade of success. Would love to have immediate success for the Bowdens, Richos, etc but main aim is to set up a group of players for a 10 year period of success.

Getting Aker, I just simply wouldnt understand this as he only has a few years left in his career to go and we have plenty of players running around atm who can play a similar role.

Mal Michael, is a different story as we just have no one coming through the younger ranks atm who can demand the FB role. If any of our current kids can make it, then its still going to take a few years more in development for who ever it is.

Sure we can slap a kid at FB, but then we will just watch him get towelled up every week.

how ridiculous, you wouldnt understand an Aker who wants to continue his career and states he has something to offer a club, and all experts and coaches and you name it, they say it, suggest that the something is skill, brilliance, pace and flare.
But with Mal who comes out and suggests, he has lost the passion for footy, i.e. i have won 3 flags, i have made a nice packet, i am living in a top place where the surf is 2 minutes away, the weather is tops, and i want to cruise and enjoy myself without the training, travelling etc. You would go for him huh?
With all due respect man, you have NFI, big time. ;)

Much more factors are involved Cogga although I do understand your prospective.

My comments are more regarding filling holes in our team and why I'd go with a Mal Michael over a Jason Akermanis.

There is much more factors to work through such as what would we be willing to give up to get these players before any other interested teams? But thats another issue altogether.

so you would hand over a 1/4 of a mill at least to someone who doesnt have the passion for footy? Who has lost that much passion for it that he takes the ball and runs into an open goal and slams it stratight through the middle and into the stands, for a rushed behind? and you want him in yellow and black?
What we are willing to give up is up to the dudes that get paid 1/2 mill each a year, because they are suppose to be able to work out what its worth to give up. For me if you are going to **** 1/4 mill, up against the wall, just to fill a hole, then IMO, you pretty much dont have a clue as to what you are doing. ;)

WTF are you on Cogga? pass some this way please.

If he doesnt want to play then there isnt much point getting him, I understand where your coming from (as I previously stated above) I'm talking about choosing a guy to fill a gap we need filling.

Our Backline is terrible and our midfield is terrible and I dont think Akermanis can play Midfield anymore. So why waste our time there?

Mal Michael can play FB, but unfortunately if his heart isnt in it then again why should we bother? But if rumours are true about him wanting to return to Melbourne then the club should get him down and ask him about his comments regarding his lack of passion for the game, if the answer isnt good enough, then leave it there.

Your a knob if you cant see what I'm talking about.

sorry man, so the rumours are that he stated that he has lost the passion for footy and wants to return to Melbourne, so we can ask him about his passion? Ok, lets say its not Michael and its PRR, you have come down and a club calls you in to aske you about your comments. You dont owe that club anything, you know all you have to do is suggest that the comments were not really on the level, etc, and bingo, 1/4 mill is your for the taking. DO you think he is going to think twice about copping some flak from us supporters when the weekly cheque rolls in?
You need to get a reality check man, you kind of lose sight of the amount of money that these guys can make in a year, for doing a pre season being waited on hand and foot, and playing 22 games of which some merit a payment and some dont. Of course they all come out after an inept offering and suggest, it was unacceptable performace, we should be ashamed of oursleves, we have let our members, the supporters, the support staff, down, but you know what? i never see any of them refunding their pay, do you? ;)

 yeah good one Cogga, sorry I must be a simpleton because I cant be ****ed trying to work out what your trying to say, I thought I knew it and I actually thought I agreed partially to what you were saying.

Who knows what Mal would say in an interview, I sure as hell dont. I'll give it a try though:

Miller: So tell me why you said you have no passion for footy anymore?

Michael: No I love the Ca$h, I mean Footy. How much are you guys gunna pay me?

Miller: Would you like to play for Richmond

Michael: I love Richmond

Miller: Welcome aboard son here's your pay cheque

naaa man, with your interpretation of what the convo might be like, you are most assuredly a simpleton with a diploma.

How about you try the non-simpleton approach that isnt even smart, you can call it normal, which tells you how simple your interpretation is.

Miller: So tell me why you said you have no passion for footy anymore?

Michael: Because as you see, there is turmoil in the playing group and we all understand that we cant really suggest that the coach's message is stale and old and i had to say something in an effort to not really vindicate Aker.

Miller: Would you like to play for Richmond

Michael:Thoughts - (naa man, you are talking to me, its more like, richmond want me to play with them, so what do you expect me to say, no, if the money is ok, dip stick?) Spoken -I feel i have something to offer, and since you have paid good dollars to a previous player in Mark Graham, i also feel i have something better to offer than he did. I have won 3 flags, i know what the deal is with what it takes to be successful, but it has to be a year by year proposition and if you are looking at performance base contratc, with my credentials then dont waste my time.

Miller: Welcome aboard son here's your pay cheque. ;)

Has he lost the passion for footy or has he lost the passion for footy under Leigh Matthews? ;)

To me the questions comes down to this:
Do we need an experienced full back to fill the position until we develop Thursfield or someone else into the position?
If so, is Gaspar or Michael the better option?

Tied in with all that is whether Gaspar's body is still up to playing a full season of AFL , whether Michael still wants to play footy, and whether we can get Michael for next to nothing.

But the pace is gone, his ability to play midfield is gone. We already have Brown, Pettifer, Meyer, Krakouer and Rodan on the list in 2007 who play the spot that Aker can play.

Build a forward line out of Richo, Aker and Brown and then retre them all at the same time? One step forward for 3 steps backward.

(How come when I talk about 5-year plans and the importance of having guys in the 22-26 age group I am being negative, whereas Wallace isn't :) )

never suggested to get AKer man, all i suggested if you are going to **** 1/4 of a mill against the wall, just to fill a hole, then you might as well, get someone that can win you games and for 3 years instead. You would be surprised the amount of education an Aker can provide to our youngsters on the field, by them watching the way he moves and where he positions himself. No one except Brownie knows where to go and what to do, when making the lead or honouring a lead. They all just lead for the sake of making a lead, without any thought about positioning. Thats why we are shooting from pockets 7 out 10 times. In other words, you might be wearing the rose coloured glasses, but if not for Brownie, we are nowhere, and going nowhere. I dont buy good vibration stories, i look and see, the only reason we beat a team of note this year was purely on the back of a TW game plan that choked the opposition, not on our supreme skills, that are required to make the grade. ;)
