The article is spot on. Anyone who thinks we are in great shape going into this finals series is an absolute moron.

We are carrying injury and form issues with several players, not just from Friday night but for the last month. We are no where near the position we were in last year. The biggest concern being Darren Jolly's form and physical condition.

And he's dead right about having youngsters who will clearly struggle if they are required to step into the spotlight. O'Bree,Prestigicomo, Fraser were handy back ups as 16-22 players last year. This year the Sinclair's, McCarthy etc are no where near thet level.

It will be one of Collingwood's greatest ever achievements if we are lucky enough to go back to back.
What's with people rewriting last years history?

Presti was our number one key defender last year. He was not the backup. Nathan Brown was the backup, and was poor almost every time he came into the side except for the Grand Finals.
We've earn't the right to be arrogant, watch and learn young fella!!
Until we inevitably lose, then you just end up looking like a ****. Never understood supporters of any club carrying on like their team is invincible. It's a stupid thing to do, because losing is inevitable, and you just end up looking like a tool when it happens. Not to mention the supporters of that team in general get painted with the same brush.

Good to see someone agreeing with the obvious. Wallace might be a sacked coach but he does a reasonable job of summarising our injury problems. What's in the article that is so wrong? And I agree with with Kev's comment about Jolly.

Is everyone getting so nervous that they cant take hearing the bleeding obvious? This premiership is going to be even harder than last year's. If the team can pull it off, then they will deserve to be worshipped for the rest of their lives!!

p.s. I agree with Swoop too....very balanced attitude of a very balanced moderator

I believe the key point was the first one. Jeans saying it was really hard to win back-to-back. Malthouse has had the same issues in the past when taking the Eagles in 1993. Is it any wonder that Kevin Sheedy waved his jacket that year. Reverse the result and the Eagles probably get top 2, double chance, a home final and a crack at a flag.

Mick knows the stakes here, and it's his last year so nothing will be left to chance. The aim was to get to the finals, get the double chance. This was achieved with a 20-2 record. Mission accomplished.

We also needed to get our players cherry ripe for finals. This is always a difficult task, and we have copped injuries this season that we avoided last time. I am concerned mostly about Wellingham, Dawes and Tarrant, but believe that we have the best medical officers in the competition, and that they will make the right calls.

I also believe that our players have been training excessively hard recently, which has led to our fading out of games where normally we spanked teams. We have lost our last 4 final terms. This is not a fluke. It's because of back-ended training, and possibly players returning to peak condition.

When it comes to the crunch, Collingwood will be there, fighting harder than ever. I'm not convinced we have a right to the flag at all, but believe that we are right in the mix with the Cats and Hawks. One of these teams will win, and it will really be a flag for the ages.

Will it be the Pies first back-to-back since 1935-36?
Will the Cats become the greatest team of the AFL era (Brisbane salary-cap not relevant in comparison)?
Will the Hawks prove 2008 was no fluke, and achieve their 50-2 plan?

It's going to be a massive ride, and the Pies bandwagon is going to need everyone on board cheering for their lives. That 10% edge we have in support will be huge come key moments in big finals.

I can see us winning it, but at the moment I tend to err on the side of P2-P3 having an easier run to the GF (win week 1 then likely rest then play a battered WCE), therefore most likely to roll over the top of us in the big one (ala St Kilda, but with more weapons).

Cats for mine will probably win this season to give a massive send-off to their list of champions, and the Pies to rebound under Buckley to success in 2012.

You seem to have arrogance and support confused. One is a common attribute found in w***ers and knobs, the other is the attribute to be commended.

Are you the defender of all things evil are you? should we gain your permission before starting the chant in future? confidence is often mistaken for arrogance, you support the team how ever you like, as will i.

reading thru the article i didnt mind it, i just think some people get to defensive on here.

Fact is our biggest injury concern ATM and our biggest concern in way of form is Jolly, he didn't even mention his name, it's like the papers sent out an Email to all thse ex player/hack journo's stating we need Collingwood material within the hour, get writting boys, so he either forgot about Jolly or he doesn't know about his form/injury, either one doesn't make for a good quality article.

Fact actually is back-to-backs are hard to win.

Brisbane 2001-2003, needed to fight really hard for 2002
Adelaide 1997-98, came from 2.12 down at half time in 1998
Hawthorn 1988-89, won by just 6 points in 1989
Essendon 1985 - one of the best teams bar none against Hawks in transition
Carlton 1981-82, came from behind both GF

Rest are probably too long ago to be even close to relevant.

If the Pies win this year, I reckon we will have to dig deep into our reserves. No easy 3 x 5 goal wins. (Unless we truly are a Bombers 84-85, then giddy up)

No flag's easy to win, if they were easy they wouldn't be worth winning.

Can't see anything to complain about really. Not a fan of Wallace but we do have issues right now. We have all but had the flag in the bag all year and the bag now has a tear. A lot has to go right to win a flag let alone 2 and some things have not gone right in the second half of the year. If we win it this year there will be some soiled pants at the AFL when they realise how much upside we have over the next few years. If we win the flag AND manage to snag a quality player like the last 2 years all hell will break loose. I can already hear the prayers for Buckley to fail and Collingwood to stumble.

We've won one flag recently. Not worth of being arrogant about in my opinion. One side will achieve this every season. I will wait until/if we win back to back or even 3 flags before I would be arrogant. If we don't take it out this year, our great season means nothing.

We might be the favorite according to the odds but we are still more likely to not be Premiers than Premiers.

Witts will do me Mark from what I've seen of the lad.

Wouldn't mind us having a run at Gram also this trade season purely as a top-up in the event Johnson retires.

But that's right, St Kilda doesn't trade with us any more haha

Not at all. It's simply my opinion that arrogant one eyed supporters (Not to be confused with passionate supporters) are ignorant muppets that make fellow supporters look bad. This is a discussion forum for opinions after all ain't it?

Only opinions you agree with? hint, if you're worried how we as a club look on BF you really need to get out more, because only a muppet would tell someone how they should/shouldn't be posting, should i run all my future posts by you first in future? should everyone be subjected to a test provided by you if we wan't to don the Collingwood name? do you speak for the club? or is it your opinion?

^^^ Methinks your informative, logical and completely unbiased opinions are being wasted on this board, you should take them to the main board where they'll be truly appreciated.

I didn't mention anything about you. I simply stated my opinion on arrogant one eyed supporters. You can read into that whatever you like.

And the irony of the above posts is fantastic, not that it needs to be said.

Being arrogant about it is wrong, be confident, but respect your enemies, especially when they have proven to be a challenger and then some, because you would be so dissapointed if they dont win it all.... just dont commit suicide.

As I said, why I think Cats are a BIG favourite to unsit Magpies...
- They have a new approach against the Pies... Kick it Quick, deep... sacrifice a bit of accuracy for quanity.
No matter how good the press is and how hard the players run... a long kick is quicker and faster.

Only way for the press to neutralize this, is for the Pies MIDFIELD to completely SHUT down Cats midfield.... do you see that happening confidently?... I dont... I see a tug of war in the middle... with Cats having more inside 50s.... and Pies weakness has always been the one on ones inside Pies defensive line.

Hawks had a SHAKY start to the season..... yet finished with only 2 losses more than the Pies.... if they had played well as they have been lately... I honestly think they would be a 19-3 team or even tied with the Pies at 20-2.... with most likely losses to the Cats and Pies...

As mentioned, Hawks are GETTING better as the season progresses.... they have the TALENT to kick enough goals and cause one on one problems inside their 50s area also.

Pies basically have to be 100% Ready and almost FLAWLESS performance in a BIG match against the Cats or Hawks... any weak point will decimate the team's chances....

If the Grand Final was a SERIES... like best of 3 or 5 games, the Pies consistency I would be more CONFIDENT.

But the Grand Final is a ONE off game.... one imperfection... one x-factor that the Pies forget to put attention to.... one hard knock that takes out a key player early.... would mean ruins....

Be confident but dont be arrogant.

Going into the finals last year we came off a low scoring win against the Crows (who missed the finals) and then a loss to Hawthorn. I don't agree with the opinions that we're much worse off than last year. The only thing to worry about is the form or some of our players and whether players will lift for the occasion. The Pies haven't been going full tilt for the last 4 weeks or so.

That Adelaide game in my opinion was worse then the Geelong match. It felt like we were having a genuine crack and couldn't beat a rubbish side until the last few minutes...at least against Geelong you could tell the players didn't care and accordingly a good team put us to the sword.

Ben Johnson said it yesterday, the players have found it hard to get up for matches in the past few weeks as there hasn't been much to play for. Now the real stuff starts.
