Hey guys, this by all means is no troll, i just want to know that if Richmond were to finish 8th this year, would that make his position safe for next year. Would you be happy with him being your coach for next year. He would have had 5 years at it with a best placed finish of 8th...

and in reference to your question, if Ratten put a 5 year plan in place considering where we had come from, and we managed an 8th place finish, then i reckon i'd be happy. But Richmond's been in a different position in regards to no draft sanctions (albiet our fault).

i dont mean to be a smart ass but i think pagan did the same for you guys and you all wanted him burnt at the stake.
Pagan considering the penalties (he had nothing to do with) did a very very good job building that list, Ratten really hasnt done much except for sit back and watch the natural growth and signing of Judd , i think finals he stays anything else his in strife but i think our list is a whole lot better off for the future than it was before he got there 2

making finals is one thing, but doing it convincingly is another. we have the easiest draw I can ever remember. if we can finally get a handle on most bogey teams - ie kangas, crows, swans, bulldogs, saints - then we could have an exceptional year - we play pies, cats and hawks just once each plus have 7 games straight at the G rd 15-21. on that draw, anything below 6th is a fail.

I think a massive loss (I'm talking 15 goal job) in an elimination final after coming 8th, essentially just one win up on last years tally, and the jungle drums would be beating still.

Poor performances in Elimination finals make supporters feel as if they simply got the numbers but do not belong in finals. Unfortunately ive had to rely on supporters from other sides to convey this to me.

Tez has had enough time to expect us to show we can perform in finals football and not just finnish in the top half of the competition.

That is why I was desperate for us to make them last year, so we could get some taste and increase the chances of that happening. I want Terry to get the ticks he needs.

BTW - I dont think its a troll as I know how hard it is to post a serious question on an opposition board without them jumping down your throat.

How about this scenario. You guys manage to finish top 4, then go out in straight sets in the finals series. Where does that leave Terry?

Personally, I don't relate where we finish to how TW should be judged.

I prefer to judge the development of players, and the team as a whole. Now it's obviously no coincidence that such development if successful will result in an improved performance, and likely a finals game or two.

The way I see how things have developed thus far under TW:
* we have assembled a strong key defensive unit in Moore, Thursty, McGuance & Newman - and throw in Rance, Raines & McMahon for completeness.

* our midfield is very good with lots of potential, but further ground must be made this year. Cotchin, Deledio, Foley, Jackson & one or two others MUST NOT stagnate. They must continue to improve solely and as a unit. Tuck, Cousins & Johnson have probably reaches their peak.

* the forwards must begin to step up. Schulz needs to show something, pretty much a make or break season for him. Hughes and Riewoldt must also show much improvement. Morton and Tambling must show they can apply forward line pressure.

It is the job of TW and his team to ensure such steps forward are made. If our midfield starts to dominate games with improved disposal and less turnovers... If the forwards show an obvious increase of converting fws 50 entries into goals... THEN we will most likely make finals, and TW should be considered for another term.

If players stagnate this year AND we "fall" into the eight or just miss, without any real signs of improvement, then it suggests the players are not responding to TW's style. We will then need to act swiftly and do our best to appoint a coach capable of taking a half sculptured product and put the finishing touches on it (eg. possibly M. Williams)

Top 4 and Terry would stay regardless of finals performances. Interesting to see length of contract given to him in that scenario.

To fall into the top eight and then to go out in a dissapointing manner would not be huge improvement on last year given we missed out marginally.

I'd say he is safe if we make finals. I don't really want to see another coach come in anyway. People still forget how far back we are in terms of age/experience etc. Most of our best 22 are yet to hit mid-20s.
