Star Wars The Acolyte

Tbh hes right, Mr Loosener.

I dont mind the show, kinda enjoying it, its just ok. But it aint something that is a must-watch or brilliant in any way....story, acting, etc. Some of the cinematography is pretty nice.

Acting is pretty good imo, especially Amandla Stenberg who is playing two seperate characters. Also thought kids from last week did a good job. Pretty much the whole cast have been good though - Sol, Aniseya, Qimir have all been fantastic too.

Don’t know what people want?

Its good acting, not terrible, but theres nothing great about the whole show. Cinematography is probably its marquee aspect

A good Star Wars series that doesn't make Anakin's prophecy as the chosen one completely redundant, because space witches can apparently impregnate each other using the Force(sorry, the 'Thread')?

George Lucas himself came out recently ad Cannes and deplored the fact that Disney has ruined his life's work.

This isn't really an Acolyte thing, it's a Disney Star Wars thing(they've also ruined the MCU since Stan Lee's passing). The Acolyte is just the culmination of it.

Kathleen Kennedy herself has said in the past that she wants to make Star Wars a 'female' franchise instead of one geared towards men. It's also come out recently that she's said that episode 4 of the Acolyte was the 'tester' for use of pronouns in the show and that they're going to push them more often in future episodes.

The fact is simple: when you take a franchise that's set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away and inject it with present day identity politics, people are going to get upset about it, hence the review bombing.

Couple that with abysmal writing, your lead actress attacking the fanbase for being 'bigots' for not liking the show and shitting on George Lucas' legacy and you get the present day situation.

Why can't Disney just write a good show and give the majority what they want? The fact is that most Star Wars fans are indeed males and I'd imagine most of them are straight also.

If you're going to give them a show geared towards women and LGBTQIA+, why act surprised when it isn't well received by the majority of the fanbase?

Just make a different show, with an original theme FFS.

George Lucas was right when he said Hollywood is incapable of making original shows, when they simply keep returning to the well and making rehashed of old content for a 'modern' audience.

All that aside, if the Acolyte was actually well written, people probably wouldn't have an issue with it. The simple fact is that it isn't, as evidenced by the writers admitting that they don't even know much about the original series.

That ESG money from Blackrock must be really worth it...

I didn't notice any pronouns being tested. Can you give some examples?
Osha asks if the creature is a them but that seemed about it. Don't think that's that wild if she's just suggesting she couldn't tell its gender because it's a species she hasn't encountered before.

The small alien thingy. "He, or 'they'"

Now myself, I can't say I was particularly fazed by it like some people frothing over it on the internet, it was fairly innocuous on its own and some commentators around the place latching onto it like they have has been a bit embarrassing IMO. However, it's been reported that Kennedy used this as a tester for future future episodes and plans to introduce more of it.

I'll wait and see if that actually occurs though.

"it's been reported" yeah OK.

Tbf though George shat on his own legacy before anyone else joined in.
Well, this is true. That Xmas special...

Still, Anakin's role as the chosen one is now completely redundant, because apparently randoms can just create kids using the Force, which is the key point here.

Reminds me of that time Obi-Wan said 'hello there'

Far out, it's not completely redundant, get down from that ledge.

The witches of dathomir created life to bring Darth Maul back previously which was done by, let me see, George Lucas.

If they are flying around in space ships, then IVF technology is certainly within reach.

Do you understand Anakin's prophecy and why he was so special?
Do you understand the difference between a life being created directly by someone compared to spontaneously by the Force?

Are you familiar with the rebirth of Darth Maul by the Witches of Dathomir which was written by George Lucas?

I see everyone assuming Kelnacca was a male.

Unless it gets an industrial grade Brazilian, I’m staying in the fence.
I didn't but I got told off. :p

It follows a similar theme. I can agree that it does have differences however.

Somewhat but not remotely the same as Anakin's conception.

Nor are these twins the same as Anakin's conception.

Would also be a tad ironic that George Lucas quit Star Wars because fanboys said he ruined their childhood and he's now complaining that Disney has ruined Star Wars. Even if he thought it, speaking about it publicly is just mind numbingly stupid.

I can accept space ships making whirring and whooshing noises in the vacuum of space. It enhances the experience, a bit like an electric vehicle generating the sound of an exhaust or changing gear. But flames on the outside of a spaceship is just dumb. It was a idiotic way to show Osha having a mini flashback.
I'm with you about flames in space. It is just dumb. They can have some briefly if there is out gassing of an oxygen containing atmosphere but that's it. I have an even bigger dislike, when spaceships are damaged in space then they roll and sink like ships. SW does it all the time as do many other shows. Dumb, lazy and unnecessary. I have learnt to tolerate it.

I only came to the thread to help me decide if I should watch it. Seems it's been caught up in the culture wars. Good science fiction tends to be edgy, challenging, thought provoking and even taboo, looks like some folks want it to be milky white binary thing. I'm not a big SW fan, I enjoyed the first couple of movies but to my mind it's been steeply downhill since then with the exception of the excellent Andor and the very enjoyable Mandalorian.
