The Axe Must Swing This Week

i do not believe the axe should swing for 7-8 players

every team has their bad games its just when carlton has a bad game they are pathetic.

we were just not playing to our strengths. we have 11 players that are over 6 foot 2 and yet only took 1 contested mark between them.

We lacked the intensity we had last week. The players just need to have alot more one percenters. We had 65 tackles last week and this week we had half that.

We just need to keep the ball in our forward 50 for as long as possible and the goals will come.

Its the one percenters that win games

I don't care about anything that happens... I just want to know one thing:

WHAT THE **** WERE THEY THINKING?!

Examples:
*Pulls someone's jumper with one hand*
I tackled you, Melbourne player... hoorah.

*Falls into the bottom of a pack sideways*
I flew into the pack to make a contest... hoorah.

*Runs at half pace towards the escaping demons player*
I will get you, Melbourne player!

Their attack on the ball seemed that pathetic (bar a rewardable few, they know who they are).

Everyone hangs their heads too low, too quickly, and allows themselves to be sucked in to the oppositions gameplan.

Late in the game, one of our boys applied a small bump to Davey, and he fell like a house of cards... imagine if we had've done that the whole game (and we could have). They would have been pummelled and lost confidence, just like we let them do to us with their running game.

No physical pressure when it's our greatest strength at the moment... WHY?!

Agree disappointing effort, but despite the result I still think we have a much better list to work with than last year. Yes big changes need to be made. Today we lost because our midfield got killed. Not having a winning ruck is a huge problem. Time for Mott to come in for French. No good having a heap of good midfielders if we don't get first use of the ball. And yes the defence is a bit short, but we all knew that. Perhaps we should slowly ease Sentanta into the side. Sure he's learning the game, but his height and speed and natural athletic abilities are what we need at the moment. His never say die attitude will be a huge plus. I'm willing to put up with a few clangers if it means his game develops faster. Time to be bold. Wiggins perhaps in a midfield or half-forward role. This guy is fast and may surprise a few when used out of defence. I remember seeing him in that role against Essendon and North last year (the one's we won). Give Bowyer and Teague a go. The backline was structured poorly today and were getting bombarded continually due to a non-performing midfield. As for Lance, keep him at centre-half forward. This guy has talent. Getting him to prop up a shaky defence with a midfield that's getting killed ain't doing his confidence any good.

I guess there are some positives. Yeh we stuffed up today, but we have time to fix things up. Don't give up just yet. Also Walker! It's starting to become clear that this guy is probably bettter than Cooney and perhaps even Goddard and Wells.

In: Mott Livingston Clarke Simpson Fisher
Out: McCormick French Prendergast Morrell Sporn (inj)

Mott and De Luca in the ruck, rotating tall forward. Fisher the floating tall forward. Livo to help Thorny and Norman or go forward for variety. Whitnall to stay forward - chain him to the goal posts. Clarke to do the harassing and provide pace. Simmo pace and skill.

Very happy with those thoughts ODN, there has to be some serious changes after a loss like that. Everyone is wanting Mott to get a game and see how he is progressing. I believe he will be a little more 'physical' than French which in turn will help bring the smaller running players into the game. Besides, he can't be any worse than French is at the moment.

Livingston has to be played in order to show for once and for all whether he deserves tol be kept at the club come seasons end. Fisher is a good long term player & Simpson needs to get some senior experience. I'm no fan of Clarke's but at least he will be more desperate than the guys we are dropping !!

I thought McCormick tried hard and did some good things, hard to cite individuals in a collectively insipid performance.

Norman was pathetic however... I'd drop him, along with French & Prenda (prenda just needs to sort out his disposal).

But Morrell was excellent when moved down back.. perhaps a good idea after all? Is Sporn injured? If not... he shouldn't be out.

True but he doesn't have the pace or the disposal skills and seems to have dropped off his ball winning form from last year.

Norman can't and won't be dropped. The midfield is where it fell apart for us and the defenders were hung out to try. Norman struggled early but IMO came back into it in the second half. Pathetic is way over the mark I think.

An example of how we all see different things, Morrell was definitely the pathetic one. What did he get? 4 disposals? Dropped marks, failed to make contests, couldn't chase, he was a log yesterday.

Is Sporn injured? If not... he shouldn't be out.
He is injured sorry to say.

Don't you think Kouta deserves a game?

He didn't even throw himself into contests and seemed to stop when it all seemed lost... Melbourne players just running off with ease because our boys thought they had missed their only chance was a common occurance yesterday.

When he moved into defence, he proved some zest... plenty of spoils and seemed as clever down their as Lance but with a bit more pace. He could be a good defender. His biggest assets are his marking ability and long kicks into the forward line.

Norman was not good by any stretch but I still have the worth of each player reversed to your order. It's all good ... we'll agree to disagree.

Now next time, can we work as a team and do it my way? ;)

Fair loss of pace there Surrey. While none of your outs are quick, they are damn sight quicker than most of your ins. That's why I plumped for Clarke to come back and play a tagging role.

Don't entirely agree ODN. I think pound for pound pace should not be an issue with these changes.

As for Clarke; he has been my biggest disappointment this year. I expected better and I don't believe he is a tagger. I would place him on the wing and tell him to run and link ALL DAY.

Fair point about Clarke. He is disappointing but we are just so damn slow on the bigger grounds, he is worth the punt. Ditto for Simpson who surely has to come into the side eventually.

As for the pace, I would expect that McCormick would be faster than Harford but you are right the difference is not that great as he isn't that quick himself.

Mott and French are probably interchangeable though Barnaby might have an extra yard ... maybe.

Prendergast and Livingston would be similarly paced with Prender having the overall fitness and stamina advantage.

These days Kouta wouldn't be any faster than Morrell I'd imagine.

Sporn would probably have a pace advantage over Fisher.

Overall probably not a huge difference but when you look at it first time and see a perenially injured Kouta and a lumbering Mott listed there along with Harford, it looks kinda scary.

Would like to see us increase our pace stocks however.
