the final month is approaching and there are two very winnable games to secure our finals place, so lets for the sake of the discussion, assume that we will win at least 1 of those if not both.

the team seems to be fairly stable in the past month in terms of positions and gameplan and few changes have been made due to form.

what would you like to see happen to the first 22 in the final stages of the season ?

i for one would like to see brett deledio move back to the half back line

i dont think he has been overly effective in the past 4-6 weeks in the midfield and i think that we can better use his elite kicking. i would still like him to have short stints in the midfield but on the whole i would like to see him, houli and vlastuin behind the ball as much as possible

Yeah I don't know about that. I'd nearly prefer to see him out of the square with Jack. Reckon he could kick a few bags plus I'd really like our back 6 to continue playing together. They really have a good playing cohesion at the minute. It's a luxury that we no longer have to have Lids back there.

yeah, the goal square could definitely be an option, where he is being played right now is not of the greatest benefit for himself or the team.

need something more from him in the coming weeks, a move to one of the pointy ends of the ground could assist with that

Deledio to play lose man in defence or HBF if that isn't possible.

4 wins, minimum.

Should win all of our remaining games this year.;):thumbsu:

I think a 4-0 finish is a strong possibility, but think 3-1 will probably happen.

The changes I'd like to see are pretty minimal and only to do with personnel. Vickery in for Stephenson, Grimes in for Astbury (when 100% fit) and King in for ummm...... I dunno. After seeing how McGuane makes room for Riewoldt, I don't want him dropped for King and a 2-tall forward line.

That is the biggest dilemma. LIFO policy suggests Tuck may get dropped for King, but I think Tuck could be really useful in the finals. This type of dilemma is one all clubs want (i.e. selections not just making themselves) but one I don't envy the selection committee over.

I think the suggestion of on field role changes, specifically moving Deledio, is silly. He stays in the middle and rests as a deep forward as per Martin & Cotchin.

The back 6 are playing great footy and you hear plenty of folk saying that keeping a defensive unit settled helps. As Infamy rightly points out, Deledio would get a tag off HB just like he would in the midfield.

For what it's worth, having Deledio tagged, even held to 50% of his expected output, is no issue for me, PROVIDED he runs the other way and stops that tagger kicking goals or racking up possessions. He has done that, I think.

Most teams have a tagger, and he will go to someone. Might as well be Deledio. If Deledio plays full forward, then the opposition's tagger will go to Dusty, so he won't be collecting handballs off half back and roosting it long.

This week is a danger game. Lions are a decent side and have shown they can beat good teams this year.
Carlton will be playing for their season the following weekend.
Giants up there will be tougher than many think.
We will smash Essendon in the final round.

We can win all four. We still need one more win to ensure we play finals and that will happen.

I agree. I don't want to see much change, but would like to see Vickery in for Stephenson and Grimes in for Astbury.

Not sure about King. Newman seemed to be playing the Jake King position against the Hawks, bustling the ball over the boundary when there was a hurried kick out of the Tigers defence. Worked pretty well, IMO.

I'm happy with Tuck in the team in the run to September.

I'd love a look at McBean and McDonough at AFL level, but not this year. Not now. Time to settle in.

HUGE dilemma for the selection committee and probably the single biggest reason we have 12 wins with four games to go.

i think tuck has to stay, provides that in and under steel that we will need to get those last couple of wins and hopefully win a final.

he just doesnt seem to be on the right side of hardwick this year, vickery in for orren is a must as well as some lads have pointed out.

i think mcguane to play again this week with a 3 tall forward line

Whitey might have to make way for Kingy.

And only other change I can see happening coming into finals is Grimes for Astbury.

I don't see how they could possibly drop White unless he has 2-3 shockers to close out the season.

Have you seen how much harder than EVERYONE else he runs out there? He has been a line breaking, space creating machine this year and dropping him for King is a terrible idea IMO.

Not sure who King comes in for.

Only one change for me with Vickery coming in for Stephenson. I like having Astbury in the 22 as he is a big strong body. Grimes only comes in when he is smashing down the door at VFL level or if Astbury gets exposed.

I want to keep McGuane in as he is a dynamic third tall and offers a lot. I'm not too sure how King comes back in to the side. Maybe for Vlastuin, but that would be very unlucky.

King comes in for McGuane for me. Much more important to our side. Vlastuin is quality, wouldn't drop him.

The way i see it that if we beat the Lions we will win all our remaining games. I am really looking forward to seeing the Tiges play with no pressure on us. Win this week & we cannot miss the finals it will be great to see us take our game to another level. Very interested to see us play with the shackles off. When was the last time were in this position? God help the opposition I say. Especially at the MCG!

I understand what your saying. However say for example we play either Collingwood or Port Adelaide. The match-ups with King in the side would looks something like:

Port Adelaide
Carlise -> Riewoldt
Trengrove -> Vickery
Jonas loose man in defence

Collingwood
Keefe -> Riewoldt
Brown -> Vickery
Maxell loose man in defence

If McGuane plays it frees up Riewoldt contesting with two 192cm+ players every time the ball comes his way
