mmm, Doughty was running at an angle heading directly towards the post, pretty stupid that you blame him for not Rambo'n into the post, he would definitely have done serious and unnecessary damage

Was down that end and he was running directly toward the post.

However, he clearly (looking at how he backed off and put a soft little hand down) knew where it was and could've easily dived either side of it to cut the ball off.

Was a poor effort.

Good
A solid win, coming off a solid final quarter last week
Gunston's debut was fantastic
Digging deep in the wet to run away with the win
First quarter was sensational

Bad
Umpiring - Matthew Nicholls (15) in particular was a complete disgrace.
Defence - let several easy goals through that could have easily been saved.

Ugly
Myke Cook - needs to learn to respect opposition players
Senior players ignoring younger players on the field

Good

Team Spirit, loved the way the boys "congratulated young Gunna on his first goal, seemed to be more like the close knit group of 2009 for the fist time this year. :thumbsu:

Reilly's top game today negating Brisbane's no.1 playmaker Simon Black's influence on the game yet still doing a ton of in and under work in tight himself, great return to his consistent form this year after a shocker last week. :thumbsu:

Thommo's return, always at the bottom of the packs working his guts out. :thumbsu:

Douglas, really showing great intensity this year, he now well and truly BELONGS!!! :thumbsu:

VB, much better today, nice return to form, hope it's a forerunner to him really getting his mojo back!! :thumbsu:

Stevens, his best game for the year, keep it up Scotty. :thumbsu:

Bock, much better today too, played a far more OFFENSIVE game!!! :thumbsu:

Gunna, really like the look of this kid, I'm tipping a big future for him. :thumbsu:

Bad

Tippett, if he's not carrying an injury he's seriously lost his mojo this year.

Porplyzia, see above.

Ugly

Umpiring.
Dougie getting pinged for running too far, wrong decision Umps!!!
Edwards, still had a bit of it, but seems panicked a lot this year

Loved the bit of arrogance that Walker shows. You don't like to see J Farmer/D Motlop/C Cornes i'm a god type arrogance but a little bit of arrogance is always nice to see.

You really don't ge the game of Aussie rules do you Jen.

Really? Whilst a tackle count of 60+ per game is often deemed a bare pass mark, and more likely a tackle count of 80 should mean a win, it doesn't always work that way. In this instance, Brisbane had a tackle count of 85 and lost the game, whilst we had a tackle count of 58 and won.

Granted the above "standard" is more likely to provide a win... but not always, and whilst our tackling # was down by comparison, the quality of our tackles were far better than in previous weeks. Sometimes work rate does not always = quality possession.

Not only then but I thought after a number of our goals the guys really got together more than what I've seen all season.

This was most pleasing to me given our lack of fire last week :thumbsu:

your posts are always in his defence

Never. I've never been a massive fan, but certainly appreciate his fantastic contributions to our Club over the years. I normally don't comment one way or the other, just think (personally) that he was put under pressure by his team mates on several occasions today. Need to watch the game again to clarify that now seeing as so many are saying that isn't the case.

Like I said, his time has come. Just like Burton and Hentschel.

I saw it that way today too - a couple of handballs to him didn't give him much time to do anything. I think he has been (slightly) better the last couple of weeks, but ultimately it seems the time is near when he made way for one of the young fellas.

Agreed... but more times than not, he appears to run straight into the opposition which indicated he shouldn't have been given the ball in the first place.

As usual jen I respect your blind loyalty, but the truth is that Edwards plays as if he has the same time that he had in his prime, but unfortunately his body is going at half the pace, and as a result he turns balls in the clear into a pressure situation.

I picked this up towards the end of last year and if you read the old posts, you'll see that I wanted him, along with Burton, to retire at the end of last year, so that he wouldn't embarrass himself this year.

He still has the same desire to play, courage, determination etc, but he's slowed down to a bloody walk this year. IMO he should play until the break, at which point he should retire, so that it appears to be on his terms, not the club's.

His outstanding career deserves that.

The good...
Douggie:thumbsu: Shown enough all year and today showed why Crows have kept the faith.
Tex...still young, still raw, but gets in the right places and those two goals. First from 5m inside the square, hit fence on the full-magic stuff. :D
Macca - like a fine wine, gets better with age - only keeper of seniors at this stage, great game :thumbsu:
Dangerfield :thumbsu: Once someone shows him how to get cheap possessions as a handball reciever he will dominate. Brad Ebert...sorry mate...crows picked the right man.
Bock Bock and the Truck :thumbsu: Sounds like a 70's movie title or a kids cartoon...saw the old FB and CHB from last year today...not back totally, but very encouraging.
VB:thumbsu: Good response to a shocker last week.
Run and carry :thumbsu:
Kick out of contest or centre bounce - its how Tex got on his first 4th quarter bomb:thumbsu:
Fev...for all that you get with the mega chin, he can play the game. 4 of the most skillful goals you are likely to see.
A WIN!!!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

The Bad...
Tippett and Porps, barest glimpses from both, both must be injured as there is no other logical explanation for going missing on a day when both should have dominated. :thumbsd:
Cook and Pets - they try hard, love their energy and the way they attack the contest, but their disposal needs plenty of polish...would put Schmidt in this area too. :thumbsd:
Edwards (the sad:() hate to say it but should have retired last year and gone out remembered as the champ he is. The axe is looming...better to make the descision yourself.
OPSM sponsoring the umpires...seriously was it for the laugh value...Stevie Wonder could have done a better job than the three green frogs out there today some shocking misses for both sides.
Tackling:thumbsd: While better than last week...someone PLEASE show our lads how to pin an arm and not hug them around the bloody waist-leaves hands free to get football away...pointless exercise.

The Ugly
The seemingly glaring omission of a 2nd ruckman. Maric is nearly shot and still over half the season to go.

Rutten only just missed out on my good list. I think he really comprehensively beat Fevola. I can think of only one occassion where Fevola beat him 1v1 in a contest...when he edged him in the side and then kicked that checkside roaster. He was also very offensive himself, I didn't think he played to loose.

I don't actually dispute that at all - I thought Rutten was very good offensively, and Fevola was extremely lazy. While Rutten was zoning off or running the ball forward, Fev was standing around on his own, failing to get involved up the ground. When they clashed 1 on 1, Rutten more often than not won the battle.

BUT Fev kicked 5 goals, and most of them were because Rutten was playing off of him in order to zone further up the ground, and wasn't quite able to make it back in time. It was really only a matter of 5 or 10 meters, but the fact that it happened several times led me to conclude that he played him a bit too loose.

Fev had a very lazy game, but it was still a 5 goal game.

we had it less not more.

Yes, I appreciate that, but it was a generalised question really rather than talking about our actual numbers. Is there no logic in the thought that a team that has the ball more often than the other team, is more likely to be tackled more often?

I also wanted at least two of them to retire last year and as much as it pained me, I think I had McLeod ahead of Edwards, based purely on form, as Tyson had definitely had the stronger year of the two. Burton was a given as the second player.

I agree with you that playing to the break then retiring gracefully would be the best plan.

Yes. ^^^ This ^^^.

He was better yesterday, a couple of times moved the ball on quickly, rather than stopping the flow, but still time to hang up the boots. Not that he can't contribute still, even at his lessened capacity, more that the Crows need to use his spot to develop the newer players.

The reason he played on has evaporated, so his best contribution until his farewell game will be to encourage younger players at training, and keep selection pressure on by playing well in the SANFL.

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of Maric.

Woeful past fortnight and i can't decide whether he is physically unable to shoulder the load as 1R not even half way into the season or if he simply isn't good enough.

A few of his games early in the season were fantastic...leapt higher than normal, taps to advantage, was even marking the ball around the ground.

However, the past two weeks have seen the return of the Maric most don't like to mention.

Is it physical or it psychological?

I have long thought that Ivan is our most emotion driven player.

When his head is right he is fierce, competitive and is an AFL ruckman.

When he loses confidence for whatever reason he becomes almost timid and is so transparent when he is down.

If ever there was a player who needs a sports psych he is it...get his head right and he is good enough:thumbsu: Also, at his size and athleticism he simply cannot afford to be injured.
