Both are/will be more bull type of men though.

I agree Clancee looks a little rotund, and to a lesser extent Suban, but I think that's just their natural body shape. They're never ever going to the slim and trim type. As long as they have the pace to stay away from chasers, which Suban has a little more of than Clancee, then I really can't complain.

Totally agree in that I'd like them to focus a little more on being streamlined than the rest of our lads though.

Clancee comment probably a bit unfair. Fyfe said he is the hardest worker on the track.

Yeah, I agree. After Pav, he is probably the player you think would be second in line to plough through a pack with 3 or 4 players hanging off him.

Big Thighs, Oh My.

Yeah, in terms of musculature and fitness we have to go to be one of the worst teams in the league. We need players to start showing huge improvements in their time trials and beep tests.

Well if Fyfe said it, tis ye truth be spoken!

Hardest worker = has to work hard to power his thunder thighs

Pearce just seems to have a body out of proportion.

8% BF or GTFO

That's if he stopped going to ground every contest anyway...

And yeah I agree with this thread. I know mirror muscles are supposed to be overrated compared to core strength in footy, but it's ridiculous how much more muscular and intimidating nearly every other team looks compared to our boys.

I could live with it if we were running every other team off their feet instead, but if anything the opposite is the case.

This seems to have been an issue for a long time... but when I look through the team from Saturday there are only a few I could target as being a problem.

MJ, Duff and Hinkley - have been in the system long enough and should be bigger; it doesn't help when they play so weak as well as look weak.

Most of the rest that may appear to need work are either mature recruits without the benefit of being on an AFL list for years (Faulks, Mzungu) , young and developing (Fyfe, Clarke) or body type/player not suited to too much bulk (Hill, Balla). So these would not indicate a club wide problem except for not being able to get MJ and Duff to bulk up.

McPharlin seems to go OK without being huge. I would also hope Mundy has been hitting the gym in a huge way over the last 2 months.

The whole club should do some MMA classes over the summer and learn how to deal with physical pressure in the clinches. It's bloody tiring as and the boys could certainly deal with improving their physicality. I see this as the best way to improve their fitness without the use of the footy on the track.

Wrestling, in particular Greco Roman (the one that translates best in MMA), might be a better fit. Wrestlers develop incredibly powerful cores, and good explosive power. The former would be useful for all of the players, the latter definitely useful for inside mids and guys laying tackles (which should be everyone I guess).

If we trained the guys in MMA I can see Crowley or McPhee getting a bit wound up in a game and throwing an elbow, or clamping on a guillotine choke or something.

Haha yeah true. I think it would help a lot in getting some players more familiar with body contact and how to manipulate said contact to get to advantage whilst expending minimal energy. Say, by backmen/forwards not being outmuscled/outpositioned & insiders to work in closer - being able to slip close checkers and be more elusive.

MJ & Duffman would benefit greatly in learning there's no such thing as cooties/boy germs out on the footy field at least, and might even start using their bodies and out-positioning their opposition players once in a while.

HAHA! :D

MJ has completed his Advanced Diploma in Pointing 101 and needs to broaden his education in defence.

I think you're underrating MJ's level of training.

He actually acquired his Masters in Pointing and Direction earlier this year. He'd already completed his Advanced Diploma in Pointing a couple of years ago. ;)

An added benefit would be that MJ and Duffman might actually be able to stick a tackle now and then. Setting the bar low maybe, but if that was all that came of it I'd call the trial a success. ;)

My wife called me this morning and said a Dockers player had just come in to get his car looked at (she works at a dealership/service centre), and (being new to AFL, let alone the Dockers) she thought it was MJ.

I asked her if he was pointing all over the place and she laughed and said 'No.' I told her it couldn't be MJ in that case.... Turns out I was right - it was Roge. :D

Dealer: "How can I help you Mr Johnson?"

MJ: "I seem to have a problem with my car"

Dealer: "Whats wrong with it?"

MJ: "Eveytime I take it for a spin it gets stuck on cruise control, the onboard navigtion system fails but lucky for me the car keeps swerving out of the way when a collision is detected"

Dealer: "Are we still talking about your car?"
