Has our list been significantly improved by the actions of the last two years ?
Martin , Astbury, Conca, Helbig , Batch all look good prospects .
Nason, Grimes , Webberly, Miller, Gourdis, Dea all look at best very good depth players , a couple still have potential to be a tad better.
Roberts was a waste of time and a lost opportunity to develop a player , so was keeping McMahon , when he had been stamped . Taylor is looking a similar case .
The maintaining of Simmonds on our list and the rookie selection of Miller , yes I am mature rookie , could be questioned as further lost opportunities !
In reality , with Roberts and Taylor gone, McMahon being stamped and Simmonds early season retirement , in 1 season alone we wasted 3 spots on our list , Taylor could be argued was sound last year ?

Houli ain't my cup of tea and IMO will prove a waste , Grigg certainly assists our midfield , however Collins would of added an added dimension to our forwardline ?

IMO the risky picks from the ND Taylor and Griffiths and the older picks Miller,Roberts, Nason and Derickx haven't yielded to much , Nason probably the best .
The long term success of Derickx and Griffiths could very well determine whether the past 2 seasons list management has been a success or failure ?

Our list management whilst Dimma has been at the club, has certainly been risky and not to many of those risks have been successful to date . In two years time we'll either be praising or abusing them ?

I know wallace was commentating the nab 18 carnival in 2004, and its funny the players he got most excited about ended up on our list. He couldnt contain his excitment with Danny Myer.

I would be very happy if we could manage to get Brad Lloyd to this club.

Considering Wallace had a side with Raines, Hartigan and Andy Kellaway as 3/4's of our backline smalls, and he rightly realised the direction football was going where we'd need to upgrade on rebound capability in these positions, I'd say he was more than entitled to be desperately chasing some classy flankers who could use the ball well. I once went through and counted how many draft picks we used in the Wallace years to try and get these types of players in, IIRC it was about 14 draft picks including rookies and almost all of them were Tom Roach, Danny Meyer, Travis Casserley style disasters. We've used plenty more picks under Hardwick for these types too and look to have a few likely failures, they're not easy spots to fill.

Unfair to say we didn't get enough talls in, we had Stafford, Hall, Gaspar and Knobel all retired early, but we've still managed to cover our arses completely from the Wallace 5yr drafting period, we have nothing left from the 7-15 yr ago draft period in the way of talls and this is what has hurt us in recent years and still is today. If we'd done even 1/4 as well during that period as we have in the last 6-7yrs, we'd have had a Scarlett, Jolly, Milburn, Fletcher, Brown, Rutten, Cox etc. type tall veteran or two still helping us out for the last few years - it makes a big difference.

Some key points you raise here PTF. I can understand the reasoning behind getting Houli (we really do need some outside runners as we have enough inside players). However, I'm starting to get some doubts about him. I'm big on giving players a go and hence I'll shut up for the time being about him.

Derickx will be key for us. We are understrength in the key ruck position and are well behind the top teams who have at least 1 very good ruckmen (some have 2). We don't have 1 good ruckman. Graham competes but rarely wins.

Griffiths will fill another key position for us...if he comes on. Astbury is another key young player for us as again we are severely deficient in key backs.

The decisions made in the last couple of years still need 2 / 3 years to play out. However, they will determine where we head in that timeframe when our star young midfield gets to that critical 75-100 game mark. Without the big guys standing up in that timeframe, we can all start to worry. Keep in mind boys and girls though that we don't need them to be stars. If we have a star midfield, we only need a competitive forward line and rock solid defence. Geelong won a flag with Mooney and Nathan Ablett and West Coast won with Lynch and Hansen. Get my point...

lol how convenient.one can only assume nice comment sort of says it all doesnt it.
why is it others can assume something totally different.

hmm first rnd picks.
04 deledio skinny runt i dont think so.
05 oakleys skinny flanker yes he was. but i can categorically state oakleys was taken on the recomendation of one francis jackson.it came down to oakleys a jackson choice and varcoe a miller choice. it may be wallace asked for a skillfull running flanker type but it was up to miller and jackson to find a genuine footballer at pick 8.
06 riewoldt a skinny flanker nope.
07 cotchin ditto.
08 vickery ditto.

geez wallace killed us with skinnys didnt he. lets not let the truth get in the way of vindictiveness.
to me for a full time coach of an afl team he did okay with first rnd picks wouldnt you say.that is if you credit wallace with being in charge of recruiting. now that would be something not only the coach but the poo cleaner boot studder recruiter list manager media front man and senior coach.no lets not cast the net wide for culprits we may find answers we dont want to hear.

make no mistake wallace has much to answer for but you are truly deluded if you think hes solely responsible.
can you see how silly you sound. mate we had 3 blokes who are more responsible for recruiting and list managment and they get off scott free.

I don't disagree that others were also responsible, what I can't stand is that he is going around calling himself "The List Manager" - when clearly, he wasn't a List Manager's areshole!
