How do you guys think you will go this week. It's probably the best Essendon side Brisbane have faced since 2000. We've got a pretty solid side right across the ground and with some of the injuries you guys have got , you could be in some trouble.

Im interested to see how you guys will match-up against us. I'm not sure who's in or out for you guys so Im gonna list the potential Essendon side here and hopefully you guys can list a projected Brisbane side and highlight some of the key matchups.

B:

McVeigh

- In pretty good form since coming back from injury. Held Medhurst goaless last week and will probably get the job on one of your small forwards.... possibly Power?

Fletcher

- would be in contention for All Australian Full back along with Scarlett right now. Despite having a shocker against Geelong, his been in his best form since 2000. If Lynch isn't playing (?), then thats one less key forward our backline will have to worry about, perhaps giving Fletch a lot more freedom

McPhee

- How goods this kid been playing and how good is he gonna be? Gotta love the way he goes about his footy. Gets right in the heads of his opponents and probably has the scars to prove it. In sensational form. Not sure where Sheedy will play him this week.

HB:

Welsh

This kids also coming along nicely. Has a lot of athleticism and not afraid to leave his man and run through the midfield. Been in our best the last couple of weeks.

Bolton

Im guessing he will probably get the job on Jonathon Brown. Bolton is a hot and cold player, but could cause some headaches. Has had some good games this year.

Wellman

Though nearing the end of his career, his experience and composure comes in pretty handy during those tense moments deep in defence. Im guessing if Lynch doesn't play we could see a bit of double teaming on Brown. I'm sure Wellman will be the one helping out.

C:

Ramanauskas

In pretty good form. I think that before his illness, Rama was still reaching his peak. His well on his way now and provides a lot of drive into the forward line.

Solomon

It's funny because at the start of the season when we decided to keep him and get rid of Danny Jacobs, I was spewing. Didnt think he was worth it based on his form last year. Boy was i wrong. What a midfielder he has become. In career best form and will provide some grunt this weekend. Not sure who he will play on.

Peverill

Probably not in his best form, but always reliable and generally is able to shut down his opponent. Im guessing he will get a tagging role on one of your big 4.

HF:

Cupido

I doubt he will play but his a possibility after Murphy will probably get rubbed out this week. Love to see Cupes begin to string some good games together. I think he will be a great player in a couple of years. I think getting him and McPhee for Caracella worked out great for us.

Lucas

How good is this guy goin? In our best the last few weeks and our co-Best and fairest. Can go back if required but probably won't be needed there with the form our backline is in. Im guessing Leppitch will probably get him if he plays.

Hird

Oh and this guy is our other coB&F! Best player in the competition when his healthy... nuff said. Was in career best form until he copped that poke in the eye and thats saying a lot. Even when his not on, he does those little things that change a game. Who from Brissie will run with him?

F:

Hille

This bloke needs to step up. Not sure if he will play since he was replaced against the Hawks. But he could cause some damage up forward.

Lloyd

Triple Coleman medalist! Running into some form and despite his average season, still finds himself only a few goals behind Gherig in the race for the Coleman medal. Michael usually gets him and does a reasonably good job on him, especially in the 01 GF. Is Michael playing?

Lovett-Murray

Didnt play so well against the Hawks so he might be dropped. Generally is a great mark and a bit of a goal sneak for a guy who's 190cm.

R:

Allan

In his best form since his All Australian year in 99. He probably hasnt played this many games since then though. Has been a great pickup for us along with Murphy, creating a lot of opportunities for a midfield, similar to the way John Barnes did in 2000. Allan could be one to watch as the year plays out, his had his first pre-season in a few years plus the few years off would have been a good rest for the big fella. With McDonald out, Keating will have to battle Allan and Hille all day and even Henneman if he plays.

J. Johnson

Right up there with Hird as the leading candidate for our B&F this year. In great form, dont think his had a bad game. The prototype for what a footballer should be. Tackles hard, runs hard, goes in and gets the ball, creates a target and is mentally tough.

M.Johnson

See Jason Johnson

So yeah, that may be or most likely will not be the squad that plays you guys this week. But you gotta admit it's a side thats going pretty good at the moment. We will probably go in favourites being at the Dome and all but you guys are never easy-beats. Hell your reigning triple premiers. Should be good. Look forward to seeing how you guys would matchup against us.

OK.... Ive typed way too much.... I'm gonna go now

Bolton won't be a good matchup for Brown... Lucas has beaten him the last couple of times they've matched up, so that could be an option with Hille at CHF. Henno is the other possibility.

I agree but....

I definitely agree that Lucas would be a better matchup on Brown and I definitely think Lucas is a lot more effective to the team at centre half back, his first half against Port last year in the finals proved it, not to mention the previous final series where he single handedly got us over the line against I think West Coast.

However Centre Half Forward is such an important position for our team. It's the link between the midfield to Lloyd. Hille and Bolton can't carry the load there. In fact I'd say right now Lucas is the only player on our team at the moment who can be dominant at CHF. There is hope in Lovett-Murrayy, Hunt and Richards, but whether they receive the opportunity and whether they are ready for it is another question.

I think with Lynch out , a defensive unit consiting of Sean Wellman, Mark McVeigh, Adam Welsh, Mark Bolton, Adam McPhee and Dustin Fletcher, should be able to stop Jonathon Brown who will probably play in the goalsquare a lot more.

Also we will probably have to do the same against teams like St Kilda too. If you notice Sheedy usually starts Lucas at CHF, then moves him to CHB when Essendon is being challenged.
