It's amazing what a close game does.

The reaction of the players after the siren rang out and Ridin' Solo (casually) slotted that goal was really impressive; all came in and jumped around like they'd just won the granny. I think it says a lot about their mindset. It's no doubt been a tough week and I think a few mental demons were exercised after todays performance in a tight contest against good opposition, and looks like they're back really enjoying their football.

Bodes well for the rest of the finals I think.

GO PIES.

Fasolo's cheeky grin/smile as he was coming in to kick as the siren sounded was brilliant viewing.

I thought he stuffed his concentration (despite it not mattering) but he sunk it through no problem.

Luke Ball's celebration was also fantastic to see. Was pumped and the boys certainly to quote triple m "got around him".

I agree with the posters that said this was the type of game we needed. Scoreboard of no relevance, just a hard fought slog and a hard earned win to add some steel to the playing group. Will hold us in good stead.

I think the players were relieved that they dodged a bullet today. If we had slotted a couple of easy shots in the last it might have been a different story.

The Pies were vulnerable today with a few stars out and a couple coming in underdone. It was a great game and you deserved the win as you were the better side.

If you had been up against the Cats you would have been rolled today I think. They looked good last night and are the only side that will be able to beat you.

I just hope that you get through to the GF against the Cats (unless we get there of course) as it will be a cracker:thumbsu:

The 2 form sides going for it, great for the game.

Having said that, West Coast had kicked 6 goals in 3 quarters, 1 of which was a ridiculous 50m penalty. Another in the last.

I think we played decently, without having a great showing and got what we wanted: through to a preliminary final and some game time into a lot of players who needed the run.

I think it says more about Collingwood that we played with that many who were out of touch, played subpar and still came away with a 20 point win in a low-scoring game.

I agree with the OP though, great reaction.

Go Pies!!

Perhaps on today's form we might have been taken by the Cats, however there is much more upside to us. Geelong are at their very peak - we still have another 40% improvement in us - eg Reid, Daisy plus improved form from Dawes. And Trav didn't have much influence today

Agree! Was dissapointed to see Collingwood not post that set shot on youtube as that is now my favourite set shot of all time.

That's the loudest / most apeshit I've seen our cheer squad go for some time. Siren goes, big roar. Fasolo slots it, everyone loses it.

I have to admit I'm torn.

Before today I was still pretty confident of going all the way. Now? Not so much.

I'm starting to think Geelong might just have this one in the bag. I'll need to see how we do in the Prelim to know for sure. Reid and Thomas will help though. Plus a rest for players with niggles.

Geelong are a completely different set up to West Coast, you can't compare the performance of today and say Geelong would have beaten us. They don't have the ruck or tall forwards of West Coast, but have a stronger midfield and medium/small forwards.

Reid and Thomas will be massive ins as well, both probably AA this year.

Loved the passion after the Ball and Fasolo goals. This team really plays for each other. :)

I have to agree with this. I didn't see enough today to suggest that we would beat the Cats. We just got over the line today imo.

Errrm both Reid and Thomas out??? Methinks you bought the bullshit after last weeks game.

No I haven't bought the bullshit. We haven't beaten them since that PF where Bomber Thompson was in charge. They weren't rested like they are today. To top it off they have a different coach in charge who seems to know how to beat us. Both games this year, their I50 counts have been higher than ours. They have the ability to score heavily and put the game away. Earlier on in the year, this was the same for us, but lately it seems to have disappeared.

Don't get me wrong, I think we can challenge them, but i'm not confident based on our two performances this year. The cats have the week off just like us. They are at peak form right now.

You need to remember this they are playing at the absolute peak of capacity and we are about 40% down on ours with players coming back from injury/suspension, last week they were allowed to run riot in the second half.

We have immense upside and they are at their ceiling, if we play at our best with a full list we have them covered - IF they get that far.

I was at the game watching..
Great match practice to realy get tested..
I have to admit...that if Collingwood play Geelong then we have to play better than yesterday..!! Geelong will swamp us again..
In saying this...bring it on!!!!

I don't see them losing against West Coast in the PF....Have we really got them covered? We haven't beaten them at all this year, and the stats from both game are pretty conclusive that they are on top of us.

I went to the game on Friday night, and to be honest, the Cats were impressive, but they are beatable. Ignore round 24, it's nothing. We WILL need to improve on yesterday to beat them at their best. But we are certainly capable. Hawthorn got annihilated out of the middle, absolutely slaughtered, and they had no structure up forward. Their chip-chip-chip crap was never going to hold up in high-intensity finals football against the likes of Geelong, they were always going to wilt.

We'll need a massive game from Jolly against Ottens; Cloke and Dawes to play extremely well and least bring the ball to ground so that Taylor, Scarlett and Enright don't pick us off and rebound; and our midfield to really get on top in the centre clearances. If we do all of this, we'll severely restrict their supply up forward, and with our best back 6 fit and firing, we'll contain their scoring and win the game. I'm confident we can do it, we just need to bring our A game, and our intensity needs to be 100%.

As for the topic, the reaction was priceless. The atmosphere was electric after the Ball goal. I think we were all a little withdrawn in the last because we could see the boys tiring. But once Bally snapped the sealer, the boys were up and about, and the crowd exploded. Loved Fasolo's grin as he was kicking [only just saw that on youtube now], and you're right, the reaction was like we had just exorcised our demons from the week leading up, and sheer relief for the week off!

Look at our injuries and form lines over the year compared to theirs - they have had a remarkable run with injuries. Yes they have been better than us this year statistically BUT - and its a big but, we have had significant injury outs virtually ALL YEAR. Too many people are reading FAR FAR FAR too much into last week and forgetting their performance against the SWANS.

They are a talented side who will destroy any team not up to scratch and playing 100% so far we haven't been because of a reasonably disrupted season due to consistent injuries.

If you want to believe last week is anywhere near a true indication of the two sides relativity then that's your privilege but I believe you are doing the players and the coaching staff a massive disservice.

Geelong WILL crumble against any side that can apply consistent pressure to their ball carriers, when fit and focused WE are the MASTERS at that. I'll back the coaching and fitness staff to get us right and I'll back the boys to do the job when it matters.
