Was very inmpressed with our performance yesterday. It was a very real win and gave me much more reason for confidence than did our victory over Collingwood.
In my short time on this site I have questioned Scot Camporeale's focas more than I have most Carlton players. Yesterday I was as impressed with his honesty as much as in any game I can remember him playing.
My definition of honesty is applying yourself 100% so that you get the best out of your abilities. Scot has amazing ability and the inspiration that he provides when he plays to his optimum helps others who are less gifted like Prendegast to have the confidence to play to their optimum and make a difference.
I truly hope that Scot can use yesterday as the foundation to build a real future for the side. Scot played a great game against Geelong but I didnt feel that he displayed anywhere near as much talent under pressure as he did yesterday. His performance yesterday was full of character. My sincere wish is that Scot takes pride in yesterday, keeps his feet on the ground and gives the footy club this sort of honesty for many years to come.
On a team basis If we are to become a power again we need to reflect on yesterday's game and learn from it as much as we need to learn from losses. Even Brendan Fevola has things he can learn.
Like Scot he has enormous talent but rarely uses it to its fullest. Early in the game when the supply was rare and poor Brendan's efforts were far from honest. He still appeared to be the spoilt schoolboy of past weeks.
Later in the game when things improved his attitude and game rose. By the end of the game his confidence was full and all of his efforts were real. The last quarter reaped the benefits of an honest Fevola. We need this sort of attitude all of the time, even when things are not running his way.
I viewed his interview on the ground after the game and his attitude to the question of the media's opinion of his past performances was not good. Instead of accepting that the media had hit on a valid point he made a flippant comment to the affect of " lets see what they write this week". My instict on this is that Brendan is bitter about the comments and as such is not giving any thought to if there is a weakness in his attitude.
He is an enormous talent and one of my favourite players but he does still have issues with his self belief. I think now is a great time for Denis to take him aside and have a quiet talk about where his potential is and what he needs to do to fulfill his destiny.
We have had a great win. Now is the time to look at building on this win and becoming a really honest side. A side that will make us proud no matter what the result.
