What is it about Richmond that keeps us with the club?
For me, it has been a roller coaster ride but what really got me hooked was the brand of footy they play.
When the Tigers are streaming towards goal, three and four abreast, leaving the opposition floundering in their wake, there is no finer sight.

Has to be the bull dust factor Helen .its sucked men in for 30 plus years now
Gee I'd love to relive my childhood with the transistor listening to the 72-73-74-80-82 seasons on 3LO
Still cannot pay the club enough for sending me those 1980 GF tickets when bro and me sent them a sad cry Johnny letter
Coming from the bush 332km away from the Gee we'd do anything to take the five hour trip on the old diesel to get there.
The RFC v CFC games were our must games. Can't get that buzz anywhere else on this planet

The passion, hearing the roar that goes with the theme song and the thunder of a momentum changing goal
It's either in the blood or its not. No compromise when you are a tiger your a TIGER FOR LIFE

Tradition. Loyalty. Passion. Pride. Optimism.

These are the 5 key words that come to mind.

Tradition - We're a big club, with a big-time atmosphere, and we play most of our games at the home of football. We wear the same sash that we've worn for decades, and we're still at our spiritual home of Punt Road.

Loyalty - Richmond fans get angry, frustrated, and whatever else, but RARELY does a Tiger fan turn their back on the club for good. Some might take a break when things get too tough, but even those people are always secretly checking the scores, and are still emotionally invested.

Passion - I'm sure every person says this about the club they support, but even neutrals will admit that the passion of Richmond supporters is somewhat unique and special (even if it is sometimes a mocking acknowledgement). Despite the many failed years eras, our passion rarely waivers, and often being a Tiger fan becomes all consuming.

Pride - There's an intangible sense of pride and honor when you're a Richmond fan. We're now one of the biggest clubs in the land, but even when we were middle-of-the-pack size in the early and mid 2000's, there was always a sense of prestige about being apart of Richmond.

Optimism - Sure we're a bit hot-headed or negative at times, and frequently debate things that are ultimately out of our control, but one thing you can say about a Richmond supporter is that we're always somewhat optimistic about our clubs fortunes, even in the face of poor odds. Optimism is a big part of why our club has survived, because even at our lowest ebbs, we've never given up hope.

If I was doing marketing for the club, these are the traits I'd be selling them on.

Just this, just got home and going to bed but this is all that should matter between us as long as we get to sing this on GF day. YELLOW AND BLACK :D

Suppose like a religion, we become indoctrinated with a passion for the club. Players help create this belonging also.

We have the best team song and mascot in the league which also helps and have been made more passionate through 35 years of under performing.

Hope is a good thing.

I've tried to keep a lid on it, but I've got the kids now. They're hooked.
Which is great, until my 9 year old got so upset during the EF that he demanded my wife call 000 because he thought he was having a heart attack.

His first Richmond panic attack - a big moment.

I Love the Tiger emblem, Beauty, elegance, power & it's just it's self. A Tiger is a Tiger, is a Tiger. No pretence. The club, the passion of the players, coaches & the Fans at a game....Yellow & Black babie, Yellow & Black....Just an Irresistible thing....As I said, It's a thing of Beauty.....

So far 2 posts have been all about ourselves. Do you support the club or us, the fans?
I think the club and the fans are not two distinct entities. There would be no club without the fans and no fans without the club.
Plus I think that most people would define the meaning of 'Football Club' to include more than just the playing roster. It also includes staff and members.
We supporters are Richmond. And our love of Richmond makes up a portion of who we are.

Loyalty will reap its reward.
I absolutely agree with you. I used to think that I was unlucky to have been born in to a Richmond supporting family because of the Tigers lack of success throughout the last 3+ decades. But the older I get the more I realise that it is actually a great blessing. When we finally do win a premiership it will mean so much more to me than if I had supported a team like Hawthorn who has been super successful for quite a while. I can't wait for the next great day of Tiger glory (Premiership 2016?)!

Yep, it really is a blessing. I wasn't born into it, I chose Richmond at my own free will from as early as I remember. All club logos were in front of me, I picked the Tiger and never looked back. Not one person in my family or external family is a Richmond supporter.
