The time has come, the scene is set. The roar of the crowd is already in my head, the Collingwood chant, the colours of the team proudly worn by its supporters. The generation of supporters (I will be there with my daughter and granddaughter), who hope that they will be there for this day.
Two mighty teams, one with memories of the year past, the other with hopes of what can be.
The supporters will be entering the grand arena, with hope in their hearts and faith in their boys. One team that has experienced that great feeling once in 44 years and the other with the expectation of hundreds of thousands of supporters weighing heavily.
These gladiators of our mighty game will be on show for the entire world to see our marvelous skills – the skills of tackling, marking and kicking between two big white sticks and of course chasing until you can run no more. The Romans would have looked at us with envy.
And in the middle, three men in coloured clothing hold the key, may they arbitrate in a manner and spirit of a grand final, only intervene if the outcome would influence the next period of play.
May the game be played with the hardness expected but above all fairly so that the champions can show why we revere them above all. May the footy gods play fair.
May the victor show humility, their supporters too, so that this mighty game of us that evokes so much feeling amongst its supporters show the world that that there is no other game but ours.
Go Pies!!!!!!!
