I like the key defensive positions;). Honestly our backline has great potential and if we can stay injury free there I think we could be one of the best backlines next year. Kenny, Truck, Bassett, Hart, Torney and Begley would we awsome back 6.

Midfield will still be a bit thin but if we can push Reilly and Johncock in there with some success we will be reaosnable. Again if we have a good run with injuries.

Now forward line will be intreresting. I still reckon Sarge will be around next year and will be our CHF. If Hentschel can beef up I think he can hold down FF and if he continues his rate of improvement he could be a 50 goal player from FF next year.

So I will say that this is probably the best we can come up next year:

FF: Trent Hentschel
CHF: Ian Perrie
C: Mark Ricciuto
CHB: Ken McGregor
FB: Ben Rutten

Agree 100% with everything you've said here. I've been planning that exact defensive line-up ever since Truck started to show something down there. If those six can just get on the park together, they should form one of the best defensive units in the league.

Agree that Reilly and Stiffy need to move into the midfield next year.

Perrie should be our CHF, no question. Carey is gone and he fills a void. We have Welsh and (hopefully) an improved Jericho as leading options alongside Trent. IMO, Schuback should play as a crumber, he was awsome in this role against the Hawks.

This would be my team for Round 1 2005:

F: Welsh Hentschel Watts
HF Jericho Perrie Edwards
C: Burton Ricciuto Reilly
HB: Hart McGregor Bock
B: Begley Bassett Johncock
R: Biglands McLeod Edwards
B: Hudson Doughty Mattner

Assuming Steglein goes back to Perth and Clarke retires.

Bassett back to FB? He's been awesome with a bit more freedom since Rutten's been in the side and not having to match up on Lynch, Richo and the likes.

And you're missing another one off the bench.

Assuming Stinger and Clarke are gone, hows this look?
F: Welsh Hentschel Skipworth
HF: Burton Perrie McLeod
C: Johncock Ricciuto Reilly
HB: Torney McGregor Doughty
FB: Hart Rutten Bassett
R: Biglands Edwards Goodwin
B: Hudson Mattner Begley Jericho

Emergency: Watts Begley Shuback

Without major trades and assuming draft pick takes a year or two, what do we think?

My tilt (what I want to see, screw Cwaig):

FB: Hart, Rutten, Bassett
HB: Begley, McGregor, Torney
C: Jericho, Ricciuto, Reilly
HF: Johncock, Hentschel, Edwards
FF: Welsh, Burton, Bode

FOLL: Clarke, Goodwin, McLeod
IC: Perrie, Biglands, Doughty, Bock

E: Watts, Massie, Mattner

Oooops, forgot Bode, Um where does he fit in to my team? I know, I have Begley twice! Bode in forward pocket, Skipworth bench, Begley as emergency. Bode, Skipworth, Ladhams, Shuback, Gallagher. I think that would be my order for those guys, Gallagher to be the only one I would be OK about delisting at end of year.

I think most people agree on the FB/CHB, Rutten has shown he can hold down FB and Kenny's form has been magnificent all year. It's going to be the foward line that is more open.

Hentschel has been great this year and no doubt will improve and Perrie's form of late has shown that he can offer something at CHF. IMO it's more important to expose Hentschel to playing @ CHF as that is probably the long term future of the club but at least with Perrie you have another option. I'd also like to see Watts play @ either CHF or FF next year as I think that he has shown a fair bit, ok he hasnt really had a big influence on games but he seems to be able to get to a contest and get two hands on the footy. If he starts to hold the marks, look out.
