Now that we have caught a glimpse of what this side is capable of when they put it altogether, we should as supporters, should not accept anything less than that sort of effort, skill, commitment & determination from now on.

One thing I am now confident of is if we can reproduce that performance on a weekly basis there will be more good times ahead than bad. Sure we will still lose games but I know that I'll be ok with losing as long as that is the sort of effort we've put in for the whole game.

Like I said in the other thread, it all start in the next 3 weeks with games against the Dogs & Hawks (both unbeaten at present) and the Saints, who have been our bogey team for the past few years, in that everytime we seem to be on a roll of sorts they have been the side that has brought it to a screaming halt.

Lets hope that April 13th 2008 was the day that this club finally turned the corner. Because too many times in the past we have seen the promise nearly get delievered on, only to be let down badly.

Yep sometime somewhere a corner has to be turned, I hope too that was it.
I don't expect it week in week out at this stage, that would be expecting a miracle.
But we must see it against the dogs this week, a HUGE game in the recent history of the Tigers .....

couldn't agree more RT, this side has shown glimpses of this for short periods, ie a quarter over the last couple of seasons, i think we are now mature enough to give that sort of effort every week.
As KJ said after the game it's about working hard and everything else will look after itself.
So now tiger fans why don't we work hard and turn out in force, buy memberships which makes us stronger financially and therefore better on the ground, let's start roaring and eating em alive!:)

Totally agree RT. Wallace and the team have set the standard we want to see week in and week out now.

After all the negativity of the last week it was great to actually see that our team can play and can mix it with other teams in the competition.

It was as complete a performance as I have seen from the Tigers in ages.

I was one bagging the way Richo was being used last week and whether it would prematurely end his career. It was a breath of fresh air to see the way he was used yesterday. I hope Wallace continues to use that type of lateral/flexible thinking to the way he continues to use Richo for the rest of the season; and beyond. Would love to see the big fella play on and on and not chuck the towel in on the back of another heart wrenching losing season.

With the pressure on, everyone delivered at the weekend. Now the real test begins, can they back it up with a winning or at least a very very competitive performance against an unbeaten team.

Hawks look hard ater that. However, if this squad is really improving it is the games against the likes of St Kilda, that on present form doesn't look like a team that is seriously going to threaten in September, and who have been a problem for us in the past, that we need to win.

Give us respectibilty Tiges!

Best thing I heard in the whole days commentary was that the Richmond players were all running hard right to the end, but once the siren went, barely had the energy left to carry balls to the supporters in the crowd.

They were completely spent, 100% used up, and THAT'S THEY WAY IT SHOULD BE.

Uh Oh - Titch Edwards is in trouble then - he jogged past giving those of us in the crowd hi 5's:D:p

couldnt of said it better myself,
i think for a club like richmond not to have AT LEAST 35,000 fully paid up members is unacceptable. there are so many richmond SUPPORTERS that are not members its not funny .
i know we all have someone that support the club that dont buy memberships, we have to convince them that we need them as members

I'm not so sure.

Realistically, that was Richmond's best win in YEARS.

To expect that kind of performance every week is a little un-realistic.

I just take it as a good sign for our potential in the future :thumbsu:

great thread. i have nothing to contribute as what needs to be said has been said. the bar is set and we can't shy from that now. we need to be that hard/focused/determined every week and sometime soon we will be a contender.

Good thread, Kane Johnson said after the game that it was all about workrate and how when you work harder your skills always look better, you then have to wonder why we didnt work that hard in rounds 2 and 3. Last year 2 of our better games were at Subiaco where we clearly outplayed both Freo + WCE only to throw the game away with poor kicking (especially the weagles game), we seem to be able to run hard and find space on the bigger, but when we play in Melbourne we just dont seem to run as hard.

This week is a MASSIVE game for our season, if we are blown away and lose by 10 goals, we are somewhat back where we started, we must atleast be competetive and take the game down to the wire.

Beg to differ Benny, we have seen that they can do it on more than one occasion already this year, firstly in the second half of the Carlton game and now a full game against the Dockers, so it is something we should expect. Too often this club has gotten by on a one off performance where the football world says watch out Richmond are on the march and it comes to a screaming halt not long after.

That is why we as fans need to be more demanding of the club as a whole, from the coaching staff down to the lowest ranked player as it is the only way the club will get better. Now that we have seen how good they can be, why should we be expected to sit back and wait 6-10 weeks before we see it again? We should be heading into the game this week with an expectation that the performance put in by the team on Sunday is going to be repeated, because I'm positive that Wallace will be expecting the same sort of performance again.

As I've said a few times, Sunday's win means nothing if the players fall back into old habits and get blown away against the Dogs this Sunday, because any respect that we did win will vanish in a heartbeat. Like I said I can wear getting beaten if the effort is there for the whole game because it is quite simple to put it down to the better team winning.

If I was Wallace I would be drumming it into the players all week that they have now set the bar and there are no excuses for them playing below that standard any more. If the anyone fails to live up to that standard now, then it is also quite clear that their spot is not safe and we will bring in someone who will play to that standard.

Agreed, fantastic to see them put that hard edged commitment into a game across the board. I had the feeling they would pull it off as I don't rate freo at all and as a (ex) west australian tigers supporter it was a great pleasure to whip those nancy boy dockers and make their uncommitted rabble of supporters cry. I agree that the kind of commitment and endevour shown on the weekend has to be the level for the year. Though the Bulldogs will be a hard task. Will be interested to see how it goes against a tough opponent. Wasn't White great breaking tackles and taking them on with strength and speed!! Look forward to seeing more of him.

The bulldogs dropped away badly against Essendon last week after the first qrtr, Essendon showed what continued preasure can do to the doggies. If we can be completley commited to every contest and maintain our structure we could be in with a show.

I cant wait to see how we line up this week and how many of the changes stick Terry has Bowden, Petifer and even Howatt (god help us) to choose from will he reward the team that won so convincinghly in the west or bring back the older players.

I think Bowden needs to be brought back in but we can do without the others

We should be heading into the game this week with an expectation that the performance put in by the team on Sunday is going to be repeated.

I think we should be demanding that this kind of endeavour continues, but personally I won't expect it to happen consistently.

Before the season I was happy for us to show glimpses of our future potential, a half here, a half there, maybe even put it together for a few games. But I never expected us to be playing to our best every quarter. We're not ready for that... yet ;)

Win, loss or draw against the Dogs it won't change the fact that we have now shown the potential to dominate an AFL game over 4 quarters.

In the club's current "phase" it is reasonable to expect glimpses of our potential without fully realising it right away.

I don't think a switch was flickeded over against Freo.

I think it flickered and will keep flickering on and off all year.

Johnson wont get 36 possies every week.

So let me get this straight, after 3 full seasons of waiting for Wallace's plan to come to fruition, you're prepared to wait even longer. There is not a single reason why we shouldn't be expecting that kind of performance on a weekly basis. We, the fans have seen it, the coaching staff have seen it and more importantly the footballing public in general have seen it.

I can guarantee that the media will be watching Sunday's game against the Dogs to see if the side does put up a repeat performance, or if it just dishes up the same old poor performances of the past which have inevitably followed such a good performance. As Johnson said after the game the harder you work the easier it gets. If we the fans simply accept the side falling back into bad habits then whats the point of getting so excited by these 1 off games. Performances like Sunday should become the norm if this side is to truly turn the corner and become the side we all hope it can be. Accepting anything less than this is just accepting mediocrity and we all know what doing that for the last 25 years has done to this club.

After the Pies game, I'm not sure how may supporters knew the team had it in them to play good footy.

Now we know they do.

We can beat any team outside of the top 4 if we play with the intensity and run we showed in Perth.

So can we do it consistently?

We'll find out in the next month

I think Benny had it right.

We know the team *can* do it, so we must demand it of them ( or better! )

But the fact remains that consistantly playing at this level wont happen overnight, so *some* allowance should be made in terms of expectations.

The good news is, performances like this improve the confidence of the players ( in themselves and each other ), and that leads to more performances like this.

The next step is the players getting the self-belief that they can do this to good teams.

If we win 6 more games this year playing the style of footy we showed ag Freo, every supporter is going to be very bullish about our finals chances next season.

If we play that style of game with the same intensity shown on the weekend we will win more than 6 IMO.

I dont expect us to play like that every week though as I dont think we have it in us but if we do only win 6 games and they win showing that type of style in those 6 wins then I too will be very bullish about our future.

I still cant believe that our team travelled to perth and played like that, whats the catch and where the hell did that come from ?

I wonder if our players were drug tested after the subi game.

Since it's a 5 year plan for starters, yes.

It took Geelong 8 years so it won't take us 3 with the same plan. Hawthorn are at year 6-7.

The seasons are changing however and we are slowly beginning to ripen... in patches. I'll demand that kind of intensity but I won't expect that kind of performance week in, week out.

That's just were we are at in my opinion.

LMAO
