Interesting. I would think those changes would just make our team more one paced. I think Lonergan or Hislop (when he isnt suspended) must be getting close to a game. We have a need, a need for speed.

If they wanted speed they would have brought Dyson back in. Speed doesn seem the main part of Lonergan or Hislop game.

Slattery will hopefully free up McVeigh to play in the midfield

Lonergan seems quick from what i've seen of him. Agree with the second point. Also helps that Chris Johnson isnt playing. He's been playing well up forward from what ive seen.

not happy... slattery is a dud.. hate him.... should of brought in lonergan instead.... fletch or mal or ryder will be lost.... only 2 tall forwards to play on..

fletch or mal on brown... michael on ryder on patful
^ ^
other one will be lost... next is notting and doubt any of these will take him

No Laycock means Paddy will predominately be helping out Hille in the ruck against the Brisbane ruck giants.

Balance is okay.

Fletcher and Ryder can play on smaller blokes. Plus Ryder will do a bit of ruckword with Laycock out.

Johns and Laycock were giving us next to nothing. Welsh will be a loss. Lloyd back is brilliant. Not sure where Slattery fits in though I do like him. Campo I was against coming in but Lloyd and Lucas might really appreciate his delivery if he can get some footy forward of centre.

Johnson out for them is a big bonus for us.

How does dropping 2 talls and a small for 3 smalls make our side more one paced??? Winderlich, Lovett (if he plays) and Stanton will be more pace through the middle than Brisbane has anyway. Besides, who is it with pace that you would bring in? Dempsey, Jetta and Nash are all either injured or returning from injury at the moment.

If we lose on Saturday, it will NOT be because of a lack of pace.:thumbsu:

Righto, I guess Slatts should just give it up right now then. And I'm not sure Slattery being a dud necessarily means that he is deserved of your hate. Perhaps directing it at the opposition might be a little more constructive.

Interesting.. I didnt realise that someone listed as 192 cm and 91 kg was small these days. :thumbsu: Campo and Slattery are both at the slow end of the scale. We only have Winderlich, Lovett and Davey that show exceptional pace. Most of the others would be classed as slow or worse.

Camporeale, J Johnson, Peveril, Hird and Watson.

All rotating through the midfield.

Can anyone say turtles.

Two talls and a flanker out, two blokes who rotate through the midfield in.

That actually gives us more run, not less. It doesn't add pace, although Slatts is quicker than the three outs, it definately gives us more run.

Campo doesn't break the lines, but he kicks over them.

You know nothing about footy.

How can you hate a bloke that has a crack, has a tonne of courage, takes out an opposition quality player every week and uses the footy well?

If they wanted speed they would have brought Dyson back in.

I know Dyson's meant to be quick, but is it just me or has he seemed to be run down a lot in the past couple of games he's played. He's had the ball, a couple of metres on the chaser, but still been collared and forced to cough up the ball - you just don't see that with Lovett or Davey.

Is Dyson REALLY that quick?

My Bad about Lloydy, he is obviously a tall, albeit a quicker one than Johns and Laycock. McVeigh, Cole, Stanton, McPhee, Ryder, Fletcher, Houli are not 'slow or worse' as you put it.

Who is it that Brisbane have that will beat us with pace anyway? Besides, pace is one of the most overrated commodities in football- Sydney is hardly lightening quick, but they have been, along with W.Coast, the most successful team over the last 3 years.

As I said before, a lack of pace will NOT be the reason we lose on Saturday, IF we lose.

I never said those players were slow or worse, i said most of our players are. Of those you names, the only ones i would consider faster than slow are stanton and mcveigh. houli isnt bad, and the others only seem fast bacause of their size. Ryder and fletcher are no where near quick. But for their size they might be. I agree we wont lose because of our lack of pace, but some extra pace would be handy.

Sensible post as usual. Campo deserves a go, totally agree with you about Slattery, think he will be a valuable member of our next finals side.

Also, while I'm agreeing with you. Don't know if you remember or not, but I was one of the 'Welsh' doubters at the start of the season. In fact I would have traded him at the end of the last year. Still not convinced about him as a backmen, but I think he's been great for us as a defensive forward (especially in the first few rounds and against Hawthorn) and in my opinion, should be his position going forward. Shame he is injured again, we will miss him.

You can't really judge someone over whether or not they like a player or not, the simple fact is that some people like some players and not others. It doesn't mean they know nothing about footy.

For the record, I'm not a massive fan of watching Slatts play and that's why I'm not his biggest supporter, not that I don't like him. I like his attack on the ball but he is known for giving away free kicks and at the end of the day, he's a negator.

Still, with the players we have availbale, he deserves his spot.

Your point about Ryder and Fletcher may be valid, but since more often than not they will be playing in key positions against players their own height, the pace that they do have can only be an advantage to us can it not?

Who is the 'extra' pace that you would have bought in?
