Just want to post a thread to thank Tom Hawkins and Tom Lonergan our keypost foward and defender for the 2011 flag.

These two were the keys to our greatest Grand Final victory and ensured that the current Geelong era was confirmed the greatest with a third premiership.

Lonergan, so maligned even by our own, individually shut Collingwood down, by taking Cloke right out of the game. From that point on our confidence lifted.

Hawkins did to Collingwood what Cloke had earlier been doing to us, these two, Hawk and Lonners, have (in the past) been the most critised at our club, but were our most important players.

Thanks boys for the flag.

I'm reminded of the 2009 Nab cup final which Longergan and Hawkins played for a forward spot in the coming season opener. In the second half Lonergan had a taste in the defence, which could be treated as the beginning of the change.
Lonergan got the call for the GF rematch against Hawthorn but then was out due to injury. Hawkins walked in and essentially played in the premiership side. Lonergan on the other hand struggled in the defence and could not kept his spot.
2 years past the then "rivals" has successfully making some differences. Lonergan's becoming one of the league's top stoppers and completely shut Cloke down in the grand final. Hawkins is shaking off the question and critisism laid on him and played as a bomb in the forward line. The grand final victory is the best reward for the couple.

Both somewhat maligned players.

Just goes to show how things can turn around.

Lonergan and Hawkins for sure in the better players for us - and without them we would not have won the Premiership.

I just hope they have even greater belief in their ability and go on to dominate their positions for us for the nest few years.

Both were outstanding. I'd say among the top five players on the ground. Lonergan's shutdown job on Cloke, who looked like tearing the game apart, was amazing. Highlight was in the second quarter when he outbodied Cloke, and managed to mark in a one-on-one. I wonder if those outside GFC will start to finally rate him after a sublime performance.

Tom Longergan absolutely destroyed Cloke.

Tom Hawkins shattered Collingwood in the second half. Made their heads drop.
