He's my adopted player

I didn't have to type many reports later in the year but I had to complain to Aqua once when somebody tried to steal him.

Skipper was injured for most of the year but would've been a far better choice as a FF or CHF than Minson, he's far more mobile and a better mark.

So the love affair for Skipper by a minority of supporters continues.

Please understand Minson is light years ahead of Skipper as

Ruckman
Contested Possession
Creating Opportunities
Making the Opposition know he is there
and by the end of 2008 Minson's marking had shown great improvement.

Since the thread was actually about Cameron Wight also understand that Cameron Wight is a better option for 2009 and beyond than Skipper.

Both would be currently outside the best 22, but Wight is a back up Key Position back and forward as well as a ruck option. Skipper offers significantly less as he is only a back up option as a ruckmen or modest marking forward. As I have said in other threads I would be delighted to come back at some stage and post something positive for Skipper after he proves me wrong, but I do not believe he is the answer for anything if we are to be a premiership threat.

Wight's tenure beyond 2009 is dependent on what he does this year and possibly the progress, if any, made by O'Shea as the back up key position backman.

Wight would have been delisted IMO. We wouldn't have been able to sell him for a bag of chips at the trade table.

Skipper got a one year deal because we have zero ready back up ruckman . We needed the cover. (Street knocked back an offer at Brisbane because he wanted to retire otherwise Skipper might have been the one let go if Street wanted to continue)

Fantastic but would have been exposed in the ruck

Plus it is very debatable whether Hudson was better than Minson this year, I'm of the opinion Minson was better than Hudson, expecially as the season wore on.

You answered your own question Butane.

Street got cut from the squad and most likely would have continued as long as he was in Melbourne.

Sorry Butane, but I think that is incorrect. The reports were that Street was told to find another club, but when Brisbane was the only club to show interest he decided to take the coaching position at St Joseph's in the Geelong league rather than uproot his family for a 1 year contract.

He was never going to be retained by the Bulldogs.

Would have to be the most overated player ever to put on a bulldog jumper. Everyone keeps on saying hes still developing but hes been on the the list for five years now. Time to get rid of him at the end of the season! He is a spud

Like a number of supporters, I haven't yet given up on Wight and still believe he has something to offer

Last season Rocket said he was going to trial him up forward but the injury to Williams changed the plan. He did, however, play his part in defence in our successful start to last season

He is tall, athletic and hard at the ball, but, as acknowledged by the coaching staff last year, does not always read the play all that well. I also believe he has some issues with decisions under pressure

I would like to see him trial as a full forward where those deficiencies are not as exposed. He can take a contested mark and he can also pinch hit in the ruck up forward, particularly with the extra boundary umpire and faster throw ins.

He is 23 and still learning and at 200cm worth persevering with. We should be careful not to prematurely dispense with our talls

I am also a fan of Minson. He is not a CHF or FF: he is a ruckman who rests up forward. If Grant or Boumman (or Wight) can fill the role of a genuine FF, then Minson going forward can create problems for an opposition defence

As for Skipper, he is a ruckman and a fairly good one but at 193 he is simply not tall enough especially with the ever taller ruckmen appearing in the AFL
