The war against renewable energy

Nonsense , Greta easily found an alternative means of transport to travel to completely necessary conferences.
I'm sure its suitable to replace transport for the masses.

Some of that surplus stock may not even be approved for Sale in some of the bigger car using countries.
As with their real estate, the market in China can do some very dumb things.

True… but it shows the massive volume of EVs getting built for Chinese market.
The impact of this volume is having an affect on the traditional companies that were selling cars in China…. Like Nissan.
The cost of producing EVs is plummeting, ICE cars won’t be able to compete in 2-3 years IMO.

Time to put the massive amount of interest and investment more into commercial vehicles who actually produce half the pollution

I can’t keep up with the price drops of electric cars… Nissan just dropped their price.
Some amazing options under 40k now.

Yep technology development is solving climate change.

Regardless of climate change, renewables are cheaper and more reliable than coal and gas and require less maintenance and running costs.
Battery technology is making the electric motor, which is massively more efficient than a petrol motor, more efficiency and giving it the run time required to surpass the petrol motor.
It’s mathematics.. the energy density of batteries is the key, power storage is the key, the advancements in battery technology in the last 2-3 years has been massive.
People talk about the climate change con, the real con is the lack of development of electric powered vehicles etc in the last 50-100 years…

Thankfully China, with government controlled capitalism, is taking up the slack from the lack of development from countries that have been hijacked from the fossil fuel industries…

Found this pretty interesting

China and India investing heavily into renewables despite what people seem to want to tell us.
Yep…. The same people pointing at China for building more coal plants, despite China reportedly reaching peak coal usage last year…
China has probably stock piled enough coal that they could potentially slow dow imports massively in the near future..

Our reliance on mining exports is going to take a hit.

Mining was the reason we lost manufacturing.

The Aussie buck was pretty much the same as the $US when the mining boom was on. It was absolutely a major factor regarding the US car companies pulling out/ investing in Thailand etc.

If mining takes a massive hit, our dollar tumbles, and everything else local becomes more competitive ( while the cost of imports rises ).

Fact remains that China make 11.4 billion tonnes of CO2, while Australia make around 0.4 billion tonnes.
Thank god they aren't still going up at a rapid rate.

Meanwhile global shipping is 0.8 billion tonnes.

Apologies for the source, but this article does outline what I've heard

People dont realise just because China build something, that doesn't mean they'll use it or use it to its full potential.

Its a confusing article, since it says this....
---------------------------------------------------
India, on the other hand, has been unable to shed its dependence on coal. Adverse weather conditions and surging power demand mean the country continues to rely on coal for over 70 per cent of its electricity generation.
The situation is unlikely to change this year, with the Central Electricity Authority expecting a shortfall in hydropower, leading to power shortages, especially during the night when solar is offline.

Victoria is doing OK with renewable s, but they put out more CO2 than most of Australia, because , they sold all their gas overseas, so they aren't doing any significant generation with gas , and using their Brown Coal ( lignite ) instead.
Brown coal is like the worst of the hydrocarbons to burn. Its like burning carbony mud.

Its going to be interesting how we look as a country is coal dried up and Iron ore takes a hit.

It doesn't have an "and".

Rephrasing.

The reason Victoria has more CO2 in its grid is not because they are not adding renewable s, its because their non-renewable s are the worst because they barely have enough for consumers already.

Newport is a 510 Mw power station which we apparently don't use, despite its potential to put out a fraction of the CO2 that coal power stations do.

Oh well its not as bad as the old days of the SEC, when they were running Jeeralang 24/7 on Diesel at times.

It has the headline that China is using less than 50% coal.
But closes with a statement that China is reliant on 70% coal for the near future.
It seems to be a cut and paste from here

the healine is about generation capacity, the rest is an anlyst quote talking about actual delivered.

Hydro seems to be the problem
. The situation is unlikely to change this year, with the Central Electricity Authority expecting a shortfall in hydropower

that was one of the arguments when SA shut down our coal plants to then rely on Victorias coal plants, which I believe were older and more polluting.

I assume Victoria has a plan, not an avid follower of Vic politics.
