Would someone from each team be able to post the words to their sides' theme song?

I'll start with the Swans

Cheer cheer the red and the white
Honour the name by day and by night
Lift that noble banner high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
What tho* the odds be great or small
Swans will go in and win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
Onwards to victory!

*what tho is apparently the original wording - their is some conjecture, with some people thinking the word is "whether". I don't know what the official one is, but I sing "what tho".

The short song that is usually sung is...........

Were the Eagles, The West Coast Eagles
And where here to show you why
Where the big birds, Kings of the big game
Where the Eagles, Where flying high!

There are a few verses aswell with alot of chip on your shoulder type stuff that the club has cut out these days. Want those verses too?

We are the pride of Brisbane town,
We wear maroon, blue and gold.
We will always fight for victory
like Fitzroy and Bears of old.
All for one and one for all,
We will answer to the call,
"Go Lions, Brisbane Lions".
We'll kick the winning score
You'll hear the might roar.

We're the pride of South Australia,
We're the mighty Adelaide Crows.*
We're courageous, stronger, faster,
And respected by our foes.

Admiration of the nation,
Our determination shows.
We're the pride of South Australia,
We're the mighty Adelaide Crows.

We give our best from coast to coast,
Where the story will be told.
As we fight the rugged battles,
The flag will be our goal.

Our skill and nerve will see us through,
Our commitment ever grows.
We're the pride of South Australia,
We're the mighty Adelaide Crows.

*The new version has:
And we're known as the Adelaide Crows.

I think the original sounds better, and I always sing it that way.

Cheers,

Kasey

Go Kangas!!!

See the Bombers fly up, up
To win the Premiership flag
Our boys who play this grand old game
Are always striving for glory and fame

See the Bombers fly up, up
The other teams they don't fear
They all try their best, but they can't get near
As the Bombers fly up.

- Cue awful banjo solo -

I remember back to round 6 this year....god the 'new' version of the North Melbourne theme song p|ssed me off! It sounds w@nky with all that crap about "the Roos" etc. Thats with no offence intended towards Norf fans, but hell, "it just doesnae sound right, ya ken?"

Good Old COllingwood forever
We know how to play the game
Side by side we stick together
to uphold the Magpie name
hear the barrackers ashouting
as all barrackers should
for the premiership's a cakewalk
for the good old Collingwood

Here we go , here we go, Camry Crows,
Here we go, Camry Crows, Here we go---ooo.
We'll be there in the square nose to nose,
revving hard 'till the siren goes.

We're the new boys with so much to show,
bringing greetings from ever loving Adeladie.
Gonna tread on a few people's toes,
so here we go, here we go, Camry Crows
.
.
.
wait for it...
.
.
.
Oh what a feeling.....Camry Crows !

:D :D :D :D

Has to be the only club song in the history of the game to include the sponsor's name....except maybe the Fitzroy Reds.

:D

Straight from my Geelong board co-moderator's signature... :)

We are Geelong, the greatest team of all,
We are Geelong, we're always on the ball,
We play the game as it should be played,
At home or far away,
Our banners fly on high, from dawn to dark,
Down at Kardinia Park.

Not to mention that's permanently affixed as the ringtone on my mobile. :D

Don't forget the second verse, William.... ;)

So stand up and fight, remember our tradition
so stand up and fight, it's always been our ambition
throughout the game we fight with all our might
cause we are blue and white
and from when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
STAND UP AND FIGHT LIKE HELL!

Here. You can have all three verses.

We've got the Power to win,
The Power to rule, come on!
Port Adelaide aggression.
We are the Power from Port,
Its more than a sport,
Its a true, Port Adelaide tradition.
We'll never stop, stop, stop,
'Til we're top, top, top!
There's history here in the making.
We've got the Power to win,
We'll never give in,
'Til the flag is ours for the taking.

With our tradition so strong,
We cant go wrong.
We're the Alberton crowd,
Port Adelaide proud!
And the heroes are those
Who've earned the right
To wear the silver, teal,
And black and white.
And the Port supporters,
Standing tall,
True believers,
One and all!

We've got the Power to win,
The Power to rule, come on!
Port Adelaide aggression.
We are the Power from Port,
Its more than a sport,
Its a true, Port Adelaide tradition.
We'll never stop, stop, stop,
'Til we're top, top, top!
There's history here in the making.
We've got the Power to win,
We'll never give in,
'Til the flag is ours for the taking.

POWER!

Yell......Oooohhhhh and Bl....oody useless

I still think the outsiders like Frawley and Crocker chose Richmond coz they just want to sing thier theme song. But to wait more than two months for a win, is it really worth joining them ??

Yell.....Ohhhhhhh & Bl......oody Useless ! ;)

It's not a bad song, but you only hear it before a game, not after.:p
The Freo one's really great to sing along to when you're drunk. For those not aware of it, it goes:

Freo heave-ho, Freo heave-ho
Give 'em all the old Freo heave-ho

Freo way to go, hit 'em real hard send them down below
Oh Freo give 'em the old heave-ho
We are the Freo Dockers

We're the rollers, we're the rockers
We're the mighty Freo Dockers
We're gonna roll them and we'll rock 'em
Gonna send them to the bottom
And if they get up, we'll do it again
Dockers stop at nothing, nothing

Freo way to go ...

(Repeat ad lib and ad nauseum. It's also the longest team song in the AFL).

But, thanks to a book I got hold of a few years ago called The Clubs, which is a history of all the clubs in the AFL, I found out the lyrics of University's song when they were in the then VFL from 1908 to 1914. You'll love this:p

With deepest morals I imbue
And sing you this, my closing stanza
For you within the outer ground and you
Who sit within the members stand, sir
If you must barrack, this should be
Your war cry - "University".

Could you keep a straight face if anyone sang lyrics like that at a game? :p

Well, nobody would have had to sing that for the last three years of Uni's existence because they lost their last 51 games on the trot. They eventually folded because all their players went to fight in WWI, and the ones that were left were absorbed by Melbourne.

To be fair, those disgraceful lyrics were written back in the early 1900s. People used long and pointless words then (hell, I still use them now if it seems right). If University were still in existence, the words would have been changed long ago.

Do you know what tune went with the words?

Oh when the Saints,
Go marching in,
Oh when the Saints go marching in.
Oh how I want to be with St Kilda,
When the Saints go marching in.

A new verse played in the '97 Grand Final and against the Demons in Round 22 last year was not picked up. I believe it went -

And here we go,
Towards the goal
With passion, skill, and pace.
And when the shouting's over,
We'll be number one in the premiership race.

I don't mind it, but I'd prefer to keep just the first verse. It went to a members vote on wether to keep it or not, and it obviously ended up not.

On traditional songs, I believe the Saints used a version of 'By the Seaside' early in thier life in the VFL. Not sure of the words, though, but I heard it on the "Heaven and Hell" video.

University still exist. They field two teams in the VAFA and a womens team. (I think their current song is all about drinking.)

University Football Club song

UNIVERSITY!
FIGHT YOU LAZY SOCIALISTS!
MOAN AND GROAN AND LOOK LIKE BUMS!
DRINK AND SMOKE AND HAVE SOME FUN!
GO TO RALLIES AND MAKE SOME NOISE!
WE ARE THE MIGHTY UNIVERSITY BOYS!
UNIIIII!!!!!
