We tend to bitch and moan a lot about our draft picks and trade deals but as a positive for our recruiting men, the recruitment of Scott Thompson could prove to be our second best ever. (Behind Fud that is!) This is a real coup to get such a hard and skillful player. Hasn't he slotted into our side so well and really wipes out the loss of Kane Johnson a few years ago. I like the boy and I know there are plenty of fans on this board too.

For all of the Downsbroughs and Stanfields that we have picked up along the way, there have been one or two good'uns. Thommo is top notch!!

Geez this kid is good. Was great to watch at Melbourne and it was fantastic to see him travel back home. Has impressed me nearly everytime he runs out on the field.

His decision making skills, class and attack on the ball that will see him as the future AFC captain. :)

If i could be slightly negative, one thing against him is that he has no pace. Against the bulldogs he looked very slow. This isnt his style though obviously. Just need three more in this class to replace macca, roo and goody

problem is Jack it is hard to generate pace with shin splints, which he is still carrying, you can run with them trust me i know from experience but you just cant generate any type of pace, thats why along with lack of match fitness he has been on and off the bench.

and still doing a superb job both in the midfield and in the forward line :)

Ever miss kicked a ball with bad shin splints?
if it comes off heavy from your toes it feels like youve broken a leg.
I recon he's about 80% ok.
That extra 20%,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That's unusual you being negative Jack. He seemed slow in the last quarter against Brisbane. You know the one where he had about 11 touches, and nearly won the game for us by working tirelessly up and down the ground, and getting himself to contest after contest.

Jack, you truly are a knob.

:o

jack actually has a fairly reasonable point here, at the moment Thommo doesnt have the greatest pace going around but that hasnt held him back because he puts himself in a position to win the ball and isnt scared to throw himself in there, something other crows players could learn from him.

Tell me about it.

I had them for a year or two in high school. Miskicked a soccerball and it felt like the bone exploded out the front of my leg.

Well it doesn't seem to be preventing him from getting to too many contests. Christ almighty, the bloke has averaged 20-25 touches the last 3-4 weeks after no pre-season to speak of, and he's spent considerable time on the bench or in the forward line.

im not having a go at him.. i never was and never said i was. its not necessarily about being able to get to a contest that has to do with fitness(hence why he is used in bursts) pace is to do with going with a man, chasing and getting away from players, you wait until he is fully fit and see him ni full flight you will look back and realise both jack and I were right.

I'm wrapped with Thompson. He adds that grunt and power that we were saying last year was missing from our mid-field.

The beauty is that he'll only get better as he gets fitter. Roo finally has a kindred spirit to take over from him eventually as skipper.

Thompson is an absolute gun.

Sorry RooDog I'm just a bit protective of Thommo :D

I got a bit wound up by Jack's negativity. For god's sake, this bloke has come into a new club (which he supposedly hated) and has gone about his footy from the word go in a way that you'd love all your players to emulate. He's shown more intensity, passion and commitment in 7 games than other blokes on our list have in 5 years. We all know he's coming back from a foot injury and spent all pre-season on a bike, so to point out a supposed lack of pace, after the contributions he's made so far is just baffling to me.

you're probably right, although i wouldnt think he would be carrying them atm. He aint going to be quick though, but i like what i see from him. It was just an observation really, he will be good for us. We did give up a high pick for him though, so we'd want some quality.

ha you funny bastard

just a simple observation, never said he wasnt good...

Is now in my top 3 favourite players at the AFC. Imagine how good our midfield will look next year with Waters standing alongside Roo and Thommo.

It's a nice thought, but I don't know if the club would be willing to give up the sort of pick or player that we would have to offer to get him.

How about a Burton for Waters straight swap? Or Perrie & S Stevens for Waters?
