Congratulations Hawthorn..... Best traders of 2006 :thumbsu:

You guys are so great, I'm being serious. I mean besides the fact you only beat one finalist in the entire season yet think you will win next years premiership, you are just so cool. I am simply in awe of your brilliant trading tactics and your ability to make the finals consistently throughout the last decade, unbelievable! I don't think you guys even realise how unbelievably brilliant you are. In my honest opinion if you dont win the next 800 premierships in a row, then you will have failed. You are just so cool and brilliant, I can't get my head around it.

I love Pelchan's tactics and how succesful he was for you this year, just a class outfit.

GO HAWKERS!!!111!!!111232

PS- Tassie is almost as awesome as the brilliants Hawks! In saying this, nothing can be as brilliant as Hawthorn, such is their unbeleivable brilliance. Just brilliant!

I forgot to add OMG!!11111!!!!

Who do you target in the PSD assuming Thornton signs?

That's the point.. with Gardiner gone and our policy on 24 and under players really there isn't anyone else. This is part of the reason I think we stood firm in not trading Thornton as really he'd be the best of the crop in the PSD anyway.

If Russel does not re-sign and we value him (assuming Thornton signs) he may get picked up.

Keating. You have no rucks of any significance.

Poor Thornton really feel for the bloke, has to play for a rabble he doesn't want to.

Rack off unless you add to the discussion.

OMG! His manager came out and said that Thornton did not want to remain at the club and wanted to go to Hawthorn... that says he does not want to re-sign with the Blues IMO!

BG, we seem to have changed opinions in the last 48 hours. From what I have heard, Bret went away and left the Power of Attorney with his Manager. He's only doing due diligence to get the best deal for Bret.

Until I hear Bret say that he doesn't want to play for Carlton, then IMHO, he can pull on the Navy Blue next year. Maybe something to discuss at our next board meeting

I don't see how you supporters could be happy with the outcome, its a shocker for Carlton.

Be realistic you passed up on a second rounder for Thronton and even if you do resign him he doesnt want to be there, and will probably leave after next season.

If he does end up re-signing with us, what I'd like to see happen is Pagan or the board gathering the whole player group and telling them to just forget about this fiasco and make Thornton feel back at home. If he has good intentions and re-signs willingly (or as willingly as he can) then I'd like no one at the club to bring it up, just forget about it and continued on with the job, make him feel welcome and part of the group.

I haven't changed opnions HBF. My opinion all along has been that Thornton should go considering all we have heard is that he doesn't want to be at the Blues next year, however, I have always said that we shouldn't let him go for rubbish picks. IMHO, 24 and 33 are not rubbish picks, as I am sure you would agree.

Now what if he walks into the PSD and doesn't re-sign with the Blues?? Then you will be spewing that we let him go for nothing.... am I correct??? You have changed your opinion but I certainly haven't!!

I don't think it'll be as bad as you think. Remember Fevola was practically a Tiger before it fell through at the last minute. I doubt he faced many problems because of it. Also there aren't many on your list that have the right to criticize Thornton. He always looks to me to be giving his all.

How were we offered #33 when Hawthorn didn't even have it!!!

#24 for a 22 year old, key position full back with a 100 games under his belt IS rubbish IMO.

Thanks for pointing that out Hu$$ey. I was just going by what I read on here... but I still think #24 is better than having somebody who wanted to be traded to another club.

I think that a lot of people are not appreciating the position that Thornton is in at the moment. He has effectively got Carlton over a barrell.

He can nominate for the preseason draft with a price of $600,000 for a year. If Carlton decide to not pick him up he goes to another club that can afford him (possibly Hawthorn who knows, but it will more then likely be a VIC club so he doesn't have to move) and he is out of a place he doesn't want to be at. Or Carlton do pick him up and pay $600,000 for one year and they go through it all again next year when he is out of contract. The way I see it Thornton has the majority of the bargining chips with Carlton on the short stack trying to bluff everyone into thinking they hold all the cards!

We have free cap space of $1 million.

I seriously doubt there will be any quality in the PSD.

in any event, Thornton will re-sign

I think way to many people, particularily Hawks fans, have taken what Thornton's manager was saying literally this week. I mean did you see have fast he was back peddling after the trade didn't go through?

Thornton will negotiated a slightly better contract that he might otherwise have got, and will re-sign with the club. That will force Russells hand and he will re-sign as well.

Carlton haven't lost anything this week, and have regain some self-respect by not taking crap deals for our players just cause certain clubs and player managers like to negotiate through the media.

Tassie vs another wooden spoon..........I know which I would prefer and it doesn't involve having to look at pagans ugly mug for another year.

Do i hint a bit of anger at missing out on Thornton, maybe you should ring your own club and vent it at that leach of a recruiting manager.

I think the Hawks supporters are really devastated they didn't get Thornton.

If they got him they'd be talking a different tune saying #24 and #33 was not good enough for Thornton.

If he walks in the PSD then fair enough you were right and we should all be unhappy.

However, I think the point is we have not really heard from T-Bird as to what he wants. Everything that the managers say leading up to and during trade week is all calculated. Trade week is all about negotiating skills - Hawks took a positional bargaining stance - they attempted to dictate the scope of discussions - McConville tried to do the same - and we have tried to call the bluff. We won't know the outcome of this week for some time yet - and until I hear Thornton, himself, saying that he does not want to be a Blue anymore - then I am happy to put it all down to negotiating tactics and innuendo designed to achieve a certain outcome.

I am concerned though, that the Thornton and Russell issues occupied the Blues so much that we didn't really look at any other prospects properly - like Polak.

All the people pissing and moaning about Thornton not wanting to be at Carlton need to get over it!!!

he will re-sign for what we should have offered him in the first place and everything will be cool. OK
Man pick 24 and 33 is a BullSh#t waste of our time.

I feel for a club that has to rely on defenders they obviously don't rate.

I wonder how they are feeling after their club's desperate efforts to steal Bret by paying over the odds?

Interesting times ahead for the Hawks' backline.

I agree, I'd like to hear what he has to say. Last time the blues actually met with him they where under the impression he was re-signing.

If we re-sign him, it'll be a massive boost in club confidence. If it wasn't just his manager pushing the price up, I think we should let him go into the PSD. Wouldn't want a bloke of that character at our club.
