Is anybody watching Hero's Mountain at the moment?

Its just bringing back memories of the tragedy and I remember waking up on the Saturday as the news broke that they had found Stuart Diver buried under the rubble. I was glued to the telly from that point and actually got a bit tearful when they showed the footage of him being carried out.

Yeah, me too. I think it would be a very hard person who DIDN'T get a bit emotional watching him come out. Amazing story.

I was at Bulldogs vs Richmond

The Optus Oval scoreboard attempted to show it

I had no idea what was going on, everyone was trying to work out what it was

Funny how you can relate periods of time back to footy matches. I recall North beating Essendon on the Friday night.

I remember I was listening to the radio on the way in to the MCG when they announced they'd found a survivor. Then at half time and again at 3/4 time they put pictures of the rescue on the scoreboard. Amazing stuff.
And 35eye, you're right. I'd come down from Sydney for that Friday night game:( , but decided since I was in Melbourne I'd double up and go to Melbourne v Sydney on the Saturday afternoon. Got a reserved seat the row in front of an old geezer with a bell that he rang after every Swans goal; they kicked plenty of them that day, 3 of them before Melbourne got their first kick.
The old bloke with the bell got in the news a couple of years later when he got kicked out of a game. Recognised him straight away.

the Port v Geelong game at Kardinia Park was on at the time, and they turned over to the Thredbo thing during the third quarter...i was quite pi$$ed off at the time considering it was a Port game they werent showing......and considering it took another 15 hours to get him out.
was emotional television thats for sure

A similar tragic moment memory.

I remember being at a Final at the MCG - Roos vs Geelong (I think) and they announced that Lady Di had been in a fatal car accident, the whole stadium went quiet....

Diana's accident must have been the last home and away round if my memory serves me correctly. I seem to recall they changed the times of a few finals in the first weekend to avoid clashing with her funeral.

It was either Roos v Geelong or Roos v Collingwood.

Yeah Roos/Collingwood. I remember where I was sitting so it must have been an away game. I don't remember the result though, or anything about the game for that matter. But everytime someone brings up, "Where were you when you heard Di was dead?" I always remember Roos/Collingwood game at the G.

Ditto. I was top deck of the Ponsford. I don't know how we managed to win though, couldn't remember that we did until macca here told me.

It figures. I never seem to remember a loss.

We played alright, Williams killed us

We needed to win

If we lost we finished 7th and played Geelong who were 2nd

If we won we finished 5th and played Adelaide who were 4th

I think the loss did us the world of good, Geelong, Sunday night, at the MCG :) Carey kicks 7 :)

I've just finished reading Stuart Divers book he wrote with a bloke in the media. Quite interesting to hear what really happened directly from him, and the emotions and thoughts that were running through his head at the time.

Try reading the book because it tells the full story. Whilst this was a great show they obviously left out alot, and the book elaborates a bit more on the significant moments.

Yeah I can remember having nothing to say when I saw the Thredbo didaster on TV. I saw the site last year when I went skiiing and it feels really eiery being there.

Ta. I might give it a read. :)

Couldn't have been, I'm sure Collingwood played North in the last round (22) when that happened. I remember stopping on the way up to watch it on a friends tv...then leaving again...at the football they announced Di had passed away. I'm sure it was North V Collingwood Rd 22.
