How he cannot get a game is beyond me..
Its not like our defence is rock solid FFS

Someone tell me why he cannot get a game in our illustrious back half

Moore, McGuane, Rance and Thursfield is a bit much.
Actually, Moore, McGuane, Rance and Thursfield is perfect, if played right.

Moore doesn't need to be a KPP, Rance could be a KP run off player(As in take the 3rd best KP and just play off him), McGuane and Thursfield could be the 2 big KP takers, not really that big a deal, problem is our coaching staff have bugger all idea on how to play 4 technical KP players, but they only need to be a little smart about it, really nobody is crowding that backline and it would even allow for McMahon to be booted out and just have Newman and Raines as the small defenders.

The only time those 4 might get too much is against a team without many/any good KPP's in their team(Bulldogs, WCE, Collingwood to an extent), but then it could just be a matter of playing them off the bench well, could be so potent and really keep the opposition guessing, but I guess we just like to play into the hands of the opposition that try and outsmart them.

I've actually been wondering why the Tigers haven't been playing him. I just assumed he was injured. Then I noticed him named in the emergencies this week for Richmond, and I really didn't know why. I assumed if he was fit, he'd play, as I thought he was one of your best key backs. I thought he was definitely higher up the food chain than Rance, and maybe even higher than McGuane.

As the above poster mentioned, there is room for the 4 key defenders in there, if they play it right.

I really don't see why you'd want Jordan McMahon in the side once everyone (Andrew Raines particularly) is fully fit. I know he's more likely there to provide run and drive from the back half, rather than any lock-down defence, but does he have any defensive skills at all? He's always seemed like the type that was just thrown onto a back flank because his skills and his tank weren't up to chop for the midfield.

calm ****en down man, he was atrocious early on ...Yes, part of the guilty party led by Simmonds and Brown...with JR and Thursty leading the charge in the scamper behind those illustrious leaders..for the piss poor form stakes...He needed an almighty kick up the ass and until I see him appear in the best players at VFL he's not welcome back:eek:

If you asked me at the start of the season I'd have said he would be in the 10 most vital players in the team. Does one or two bad games changes that....no.

He should be in the side week in and week out. The coaching staff shouldn't be trying to change the way he plays as he does what a full-back needs to do and that is his best position.

He wont be far away, needs to add some zip to his game, we dont want a gayfer type down back, there's little room in the game for them these days

I'd choose Thursty ahead of Moore. He has a couple of centremetres advantage in height and he's definately better by foot. Thursty missed a couple of practice matches and didn't have a great build up to Round. He was quiet in Round 1 and got dropped, but it was more for him to gain some form and fitness

Thursty just lost some form and needs to pump out a couple of quality games at Coburg & he will be straight back in. (I mean he is close... Emerg this week)

Too good a player to be down there for too long.

I agree also with a couple of previous posts that ultimately our back half can hold all 4 of Thursty, Moore, McGuane & Rance with 2 smaller options making up the 6.

Thursty & McGuane would take the bigger marking dudes & Moore & Rance would take the 3rd & 4th talls as well as provide the "extra man to the contest" & rebounding skills.

he's less of a footballer than Moore MT, KM returned to a bit of form last week, creates much more play than thursty and has proved to be able to play on quality key forwards more consistently...They're now trialling Luke in that lock down FB role to release KM

Problem is it's really hard for a negating FB to shine unless they have run off half back as well as taking their opponent out of the match. Thursty doesn't provide run that much and normally just links up with Moore/McGuane. Will be harder for him to get a game than anyone else but with the way defence is leaking at the moment he might be back in soon.

Thursfield=Loss. Richmond really they try, but they just cant win. We need a proper full back of the likes of Ben Rutten.

:thumbsu: Correct....I think people are forgetting just how bad his game was in rd 1. We had a lot of losers that day, but I reckon Thursty was the worst.

But we all know he's a good player, and will surely be back soon.

Well you might be waiting a while as this is not Thursfield's game. He doesn't have a massive offensive game, thus hard to get in the bests. However, his name would be one of the first 5 to be put on paper...:thumbsu:
Totally agree that he is a VITAL player for RFC

the only reason he is not getting a game now, is becuase of bowden. we cant support 5 tall defenders in a team, unless bowden or another play most of the game in the forward.

But full backs are meant to stay back. Moore is only 189cm and 84kg. Way too small to be a key position player. Moore does turn it over by foot a bit too. I really think Thursty is the man to sit in the goal square with Rance at CHB and Thursty taking another tall. Moore should be used as a running player off the flank. Moore and Newman provide the run, Thursty and Polo are the stoppers and Mcguane and Rance add the rebound and grunt. I reckon this group are capable of being one of the best defences in the league.

What did he do in round 1 that was so terrible? Did he keep turning it over?

I can't remember who he played but it wasn't Eddie Betts, Jarred Waite or Mitch Robinson, so he couldn't have coughed up that many goals.

Yeah i don't think he was that bad. I think he was on the bench for alot of it. I think he was just underdone. Didn't play much in the preaseason. We gotta get him back in
