This is probably a dumb question, but what would be the best way to get tickets for tomorrow?

I've only been to one match before and it was against Fremantle (hardly a blockbuster) so it was pretty easy to walk up to the door and buy them. Since this is a much larger match, I assume it won't be that easy.

I'm not a club member and Essendon is the away team, not the home team, but it is at the MCG. Is any of that significant?

The game won't be a lockout (60,000 tops my tip), arrive around 7:00pm and you'll still get a half decent seat for the normal walkup price.

Thanks Max...

I guess I'm surprised that it's not more difficult...where I come from games are routinely sold out, but there's only one team in town.

stealth kind of OT here, but I read somewhere that season ticket holders at Lambeau now have to pay a fee of $1600 odd on top of their actual ticket, to pay for stadium upgrades. Is this true, and if so how on earth can people afford that ??? Seems totally ludicrous to me !!!!

Yes, that's all true Arch. About 6 months ago a huge referendum vote passed in the county that Green Bay is in. The margin was 52-48 for, I think. Some people wanted to make it a state-wide vote (because the Packers pretty much have diehard support in the entire state) but that failed to pass.

The vote raised sales tax in the county itself by .05%. It's not really significant unless you buy a $10,000 car, then it will cost you $500 extra.

Lambeau Field's being renovated on the outside along with a new hall of fame and atrium sorta thingy added, all costing about $240 million US. Personally, I think they should have added more seats and a lot less bells and whistles. The capacity is only going up to 71,000.

In addition to elevating the sales tax, the rest of the money is being raised through a possible naming rights deal and seat license fees, which is the $1600 you speak of. Packer season tickets are in such demand (estimated waiting list of over 40,000, which goes back decades and generations) that they have started charging an $800 per seat "license" that you pay just one time.

My dad's company has eight season tickets, so they will have to pay a $4,800 one-time fee if they want to keep them. Since it's split among 40-50 guys, they'll probably contribute that.

It doesn't matter where the seats are. Four of those tickets the company has are 50 yard liners and the other four are 10 yard liners.

We also have a player who lives across the street, and he gets us tix occasionally.

The average NFL ticket is up to $45 US a game now, I think.

The whole thing is another perfect example of sport becoming only available to the elite, and not the common man. I'm very lucky to be as well off as I am, cause I see on average 2-3 NFL games a year when I'm home, but I do feel sorry for the guy who gets shafted.

Anyway...that's my long rant.

Assuming that I can get tickets okay; I should be at the game tonight with my sig other. I'm wearing a #10 long-sleeve jumper with the "Orange" sponsor on it.

Hope you make it & have a great time. Please cheer extra loud for me & Arch seeing as we won't be there in body, but definitely in spirit.
