TIM SCHMIDT has advised the Sydney Swans he will retire from the Sydney Swans, effective immediately.
Schmidt, 23 years old, was recruited in 2003 and after making his debut in 2006, has managed to play 17 games.
“It is disappointing for Tim but we are supportive of his decision," CEO Andrew Ireland said.
"On behalf of all at the Club, we thank him for his efforts over the six years he has been with the Club and wish him every success in the future.”
Schmidt plans to remain in Sydney and look at working in real estate.

Interesting to note that he will stay on in Sydney to work in Real Estate.

Now for the suspicious part of me to comment!

Maybe he is going to sit out the year to get his body right & then get picked up by the Gold Coast or Western Sydney teams on a reasonable contract.
The guy has some talent & has always shown class!

It just doesn't seem to make sense.

My thoughts exactly as I read the article, but watching him throughout 09 I was amazed given his misfortune that he wasn't delisted with the others.
Guess they left it up to him re his future but putforward their case on what they as a Club saw him headed.
Wish him all the best. The talent is definitely there:thumbsu:

As you can tell by my username in 03 when I saw Schmidt play for the reserves I had high hopes.

I would like to say thanks for your commitment over the years and barring injuries you could of become a good player.

On a side note chances are we are going to pick up 2 players in the PSD, I vote for Bradshaw and Buckley.

He never had the chance to establish himself in the seniors, mainly due to injuries.I wish him luck for the future.

LJ Hookers will be very glad with this guy as an addition to their team.

Had a lot of talent and showed it in '04 when he played most of the season and then in 08 when he came in for one game and really played a vital role in us winning that game.

Hope he has every kind of luck in his next career as he had virtually none of it in this career with the Swans.

'07 I think it was where he played like 15 games.

Yeah I remember him kicking the winning goal against Port in '08... That was a mad game.

Duck, Wtf did anyone see that comming. That's as queer as a lemonade sandwich this one. Has someone down at the Moore park fortress turned it into an Inca temple with all this sacrificing going on. Bloods, more like let the blood run free.
