Hi this week's enemies,

Odd question but was anyone here around to see Tim Watson play from the start of his career? I remember him with the 'Baby Bombers' but am not really old enough to have seen him much earlier than that.

Am curious given the discussion about Jack Viney during the week and the huge influx of 'kids' to the AFL from the likes of GWS and GC. Watson was not yet 16 when he debuted and seemed to do OK in senior footy, admittedly in an Essendon side that wasn't great at the time.

Was he a man-child like Shannon Hurn/Jack Darling? A baby-face like Nat Fyfe that just fit in playing against men?

Massive understatement. Watson was an absolute freak. He was already one of Essendon's best players by his 2nd season.

In his third year (17 years of age) he was favorite for the Brownlow (finished 3rd), represented Victoria and, won the B&F.

Think Jobe Watson, with lightning pace, sublime skills and deadly finishing.

He was a shadow of the player he once was, in the latter stages of his career.

The jump at 0.35, one of my favourite moments in football.

Great stuff there, I remember Timmy playing back when I was a kid and yes he was a freak that's for sure. One thing that I thought while watching that clip is how he holds the ball up and seems to have more time to decide on what to do with it, reminded me of Cousins.

My favourite player as a kid. Absolute complete package. Hard, tough, fast, skillful on both sides. Also one of those players who always had more time than those around him. Cousins is actually not a bad comparison IMO. :thumbsu:

In 89 & 90 Tim was the best player on our list. Each week he came out and you knew he'd do something special and you just felt better having him in the team. You felt like the whole team was a chance no matter who you played against with him in it. Sublime, silky, hard and a freak around goals and the pack. Just knew how to get it. AWESOME, AWESOME player.:thumbsu: Definitely top 5 EFC player of all time.

I started going on a weekly basis in 1977....I saw every game Tim/Timmy ever played.....He was the most electric player I have ever seen, when he got the ball at Windy hill there was a scream of Timmy all around the ground, he would have a run, a bounce, a baulk, and then deliver it to the perfect spot 99% of the time....He was the golden boy of that time and deserved every success he had...

He had explosive speed that was unmatched for anyone of his size ever...His skills were sublime, if he had it on the boundary line in the Reynolds pocket, it was a given it would go through the middle...

The only Bomber I have seen like him is Hirdy, but Tim was a much better kick at goal, more explosive and just such a fair player....When he started, he was tested on a weekly basis by some heavy handed tactics in a day when a lot of behind the play violence was accepted...he just kept getting the footy and dashing to the right spot and finishing the deal....
I loved Billy Duckworth, but watch the 1984 granny over again and you will see Timmy was clearly best BOG...

For me and the players I have seen at Essendon my top ten is.....1.Watson.T...2 Hird...3 Madden..4... N.Daniher...5...T Daniher.....6....Wanganeen....7...Fletcher.D.....8.....J.Watson.......9...Bewick.
...10...Longy........

Many many apologies, thank you Bombers, you have delivered.....
