Well we're in the middle of the Carnival,2 big days to come.

How about some early selections for the big 3,Derby,Doncaster & Slipper.
Be brave punters, who do you like?
You can make a case for more than 1 per race but only 1 selection per race. Here goes:

Derby-Looks a bit thin,if horses like Sunday Joy are being seriously considered.I'll go Natural Blitz at the odds from Helenus & Sunray.

Doncaster-Gordo,terrific last week, chucked in at the weights.

Slipper-No idea,Legally Bay for what it's worth.

Seth.

Good thread seth. Here are my tips:

Slipper- I reckon Hasna is the bet of the race at over 14-1.

Doncaster- Can't see anyone beating Lonhro, but don't right off the old timer Shogun Lodge either.. he'll be 15-1+ and he's as honest as the day is long.

Derby- I don't like going with the faves too often, but I've been on Helenus for the Derby since about february. I'm sticking with him, looked a Derby winner in his last start.

Thanks Harry.

Cmon punters,be brave.
The Slipper is Tomorrow.

Seth.

Well i will have a go at the slipper!

OK i will take Hammerbeam $20 each away on fixed odds of $101 win and $26 place

I went to the TAB in my lunchbreak at work today.. and I saw some good value odds of Hasna/ Thorn Park, Slipper/ Doncaster double. It was paying $85 so I had $10 on it.. It's the most confident I've ever been about something that is paying so much.

Slipper - Secret Land. Even race, although its last start was at Kembla, this horse showed a good turn of foot. Drawn well, shouldnt be too far from the lead, might kick away from them early in the straight!!!!

Derby - Cant go past Helenus!!!!!!

Doncaster - I think this will be the race of the autumn!!!!

Im going to go out on a limb here, Ive been ultra impressed with Dash for Cash and its two runs in from a spell, will be juicy odds next Saturday....... Very very hard race, a crack field of Milers engaged, I think there are half a dozen genuine chances!!

I have backed Dash for Cash it's last two starts, unfortunately I can't see it winning the Doncaster.

I don't think he's good enough to outsprint Lonhro, Defier and Thorn Park, and I'm sure one of those 3 will be thereabouts on the turn. We saw in the slipper that when the speed is slow up front, it's very hard for runners to come from back in the field. Therefore I think that if there is no pace, Lonhro will park himself up near the front and no one will catch him once he starts his run. However, if the speed is on during the race, I think the likes of Thorn Park or Defier will be well suited. Either way, I can only see Dash for Cash coming 2nd or 3rd, because he won't be able to get a big enough break if he's up the front again, but if he's towards the back I can't see him beating Thorn Park, Lonhro or Defier in a sprint. My big roughie is Shogun Lodge, but only if they go hard at the start.

Overall I think Lonhro will win, simply because he is most suited to a variety of race-scenarios, whether the speed is on, or if they go slow like last weekend.

I backed Polar Success and at $13.60 the collect was a very nice one. I was impressed with her lead up form but the barrier was the only concern. She is a real little professional.

AJC Derby - Still like Platinum Scissors.

Doncaster - Defier. Thorn Park - too immature. Dash For Cash could be the smokey.

So,lets have a look at how we all went in the first leg.

From the tips received before the race, best effort was from Harry who must have thought he was home when Hasna skipped clear.

As for the rest,I thought Legally Bay would nearly win at the top of the straight but it just battled when clear.

Hammerbeam & Kusi were never in it,none of the backmarkers were,Secret Land ran well but had its' chance.

As for the Derby contenders, great effort from Natural Blitz & Plat. Scissors, thought Helenus just battled.
Back to 3yo class, still right in it.

Seth.
