Time to go....................

I am always wary sledging the coach cos I have always thought that they are limited to the players they have.

However.......three minutes into the first quarter my brother turned to me and said
"They have McLeod as their lose man and we have Cox"

Now I think Cox played well but their is fair discrepancy in the quality of players there. I then watched in horror as Malthouse did nothing about curtailling the brilliance of McLeod and we managed to get the shyte kicked out of us for that first quarter, possibly costing us the game.

He takes to long to react and that has been costing us for the past two seasons I reckon. For the first time on here (I think) I am saying it is time to go Mick.

Yeah lets sack the coach.

It was his fault Didak played the worst senior game of his career.
It was his fault Medhurst isnt quite there yet.
It was his fault Leon Davis couldnt get a stat in the middle.
It was his fault Ben Reid could only play as a goalpost at CHF.
It was his fault Ben Johnson kicked like a monkey on drugs.
It was his fault Marty Clarke handballed 20 metres to noone, when he had Anthony on a lead.
It was his fault....

I think you get the drift.

The facts are, we got outplayed by a more determined, cleaner football side, who played to our weaknesses (our lack of football brains is an example of a weakness).

And who are we going to replace him with, a bloke name Nathan who has coached how many games?

It was his fault. Leon did nothing in the forward line besides kicking the one goal. Look at what happened when Leon was moved. He dominated! DOMINATED!:)

While I have always liked Mick as a coach, he has been at the pies for a longtime now. Perhaps it is time for a change, sometimes thats exactly what a playing list needs, a new person with a new approach, it refreshes the players and the club. Change is not always such a bad thing, especially has we have stuck with mick for such a long period now. It is not like he just came in yesterday and now we are calling for his head.

Mattys So you dont think it was his fault that Andrew McLeod ran around unmarked for pretty much the whole game?

The bold ones were his fault. If Reid isnt getting a kick up forward move him or take him off.

The Davis one was explained above

My Girlfriend, who is an NRL fan and knows nothing about AFL sat down and watched today, she said half way through the 1st quarter "they need to man up on McLeod". I will grant she is probably smarter than Mick but she is not paid $$$$$ to coach a footy side! FFS if she can figure that out sipping her chardy from the couch then what game was Mick watching? Having got that off my chest, don't sack the coach after round 1!

It is round 1 jeez if had of one by 5 would you have been saying we should of extended his contract wait till at least round 12 to pass judgment on mm like many of our players and the men in green he had a bad day

If the umpire had let daisys goal stand we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

It was clearly in play, I was right behind it and it didn't even come to me that it might have been out of play. Disgusting umpiring.

So it's not the coach’s fault? So I guess when they play well he can’t take any of the credit.

Guess you have just made coach's redundant.

Yep, the coach had little effect on yesterday's performance. In the end, it came down to a last quarter where for 25 mins our delivery into the forward line was, to be nice, shithouse. We didnt look like scoring a goal for 25 mins, and MM tried all options and all approaches during this period, the players quite simply let him down.

Yes, MM has to take some credit for the loss, but utimately the players let him down yesterday, and that was why we lost.

The only criticism I have of MM is with selection, Dayne Beams and Cameron Wood had to play. Time to go Chris Bryan, he is making Cameron Cloke look like a champion at the moment. While Adealide embarassed us with our Beams non selection, surely we had to pick our best young player in the first round, why wait till the 2nd, Daniel Rich, Andy Otten, Mitch Robinson are proof this was a mistake.

And yes, coaches are almost redundant, head coaches anyway. One coach is no longer solely responsible, if blame is to be placed, now it has to be placed with the whole coaching staff, not just the head coach.

You win some you lose some.

We lost by four points to a top eight team.

Get some perspective,people.

No use posting this kind of thing up here or on Nicks or EBW or LSD or anywhere..... all we are to those who make the decisions are internet plebs that are more trouble than we are worth.

I suggest you use your full name and an address and email direct to the Club or better still write up a letter mailed or if you have the time handed in directly at Lexus will have more influence.

We can discuss this kind of thing till the crows come home as they did on Saturday ..... or we can decide to Do Something....Anything as John Kennedy said at least you can say you did something!

or you can continue to whinge anonymously on an internet message board!

Oh and BTW it's only ROUND 1

Leaving our forward line empty when we are on the rebound is criminal. And playing the flanks against a zone is criminal. Something has to change, and I think he can adapt, he just has to stop being so stubborn and change his outdated gameplan.

We couldn't handle that zone crap in the first quarter. Style changed and we came back. I would put that down to the coaching!

MM has some shockingly bad days but I thought he did OK this time.

Poor coaching and very poor team selections. Some off those players playing I would expect to be playing when the injuries were starting to build up.

The 774 commentators certainly believed that we were beaten through superior coaching and tactics. I'll wait and see what the season delivers before bagging Malthouse, but certainly this game was not a good start to the year.

That was'nt Micks fault.
But what was his fault was that when we were on a run and Medders and Jack Anthony were kicking goals, Malthouse benched them and replaced them with our 2 slowest players Josh and Reid. And from that point the crows kicked themselves back in the game.
These stupid interchanges for no apparent reason are costing us games.
And that's the coaches fault!!!

MM's intransigence and strict adherence to the way he wants the game played and all factors is and has been a hurdle from the day he started at the club.

I'll say it again, he is good up unto a point, and after that he is found wanting. He will get you close, but he hasnt the imagination or flexibility/ adaptability to take us beyond a certain point.

But now the year has started, we cant contemplate replacing him. For the team to try and learn a new game plan during the season would be disasterous.

Malthouse lost the game with a terribly imbalanced team. Selected a team of half backs when he should have erred by imbalancing it with skilled half forward capable players like Wellingham, Beams, McCarthy, Sidebottom etc., and one or two should have been in instead of Goldsack, Toovey, Reid or Johnson.

MM's "throwing out the birth certificates" or "selecting best available" philosophies should come with a disclaimer stating 'Best Available = Most Honest HBFer'.

His inability to order a tight man on man scenario early, with a hard tag on McLeod was negligent.

For mine, this zone and gameplan rubbish us tired. The Hawks won a flag offensively with a wide kicking gameplan. Malthouse just needs to select the right bloody players!

We dont have the cattle to beat the really good teams, either negating a zone or playing as wide as we do.

Let's look at some facts.

His win/loss ratio is less than 50%.

He has had access to 1 x Number 1 Pick, 1 x Number 2 Pick, 1 x Number 3 Pick, 1 x Number 5 Pick, 1 x Number 7 Pick, 1 x Number 8 Pick & 1 x Number 10 Pick (that is 7 x Top 10 Picks).

Is on $800 K per year.

Has the Lexus Centre, trips to Arizonia, the most $ outlay on his coaching staff than any coach in the AFL.

Is in his 9th year & we are still waiting for a premiership. It is time to cut our losses.
