Move if in the wrong spot. After searching I still could not find anything.

Like most teenagers I know shit all about cars and my bodacious Magna is nearing the 100,000km mark.

How much would a timing belt replacement cost for a Mitsubishi Magna Advance TH, 3.5L V6 year 2000.

This is the only forum ever that actually responds and that I am familiar with.

That is pretty crazy to have a 15 year old car that hasn't even done 100,000km.

Do you have a particular mechanic or car dealer that you go to?
Yeah, the person who I bought it off was elderly and didn't drive it around too much.

I just went to Bridgestone today because they were offering a $139 service and tune up, so I don't have a particular mechanic.

Timing belts are usually between $ 500 - $800 for service and replacement .

Depends on what type of car you have

So probably best to call around and just see who offers the cheapest? If only I had a mechanic mate, who could cut the labour cost in half

You'll want to replace your water pump at the same time whether it needs it or not. The reason being is that if you dont and it goes later on you'll have to fork out even more for the labour. Labour is the big $$$$.

You can buy the parts by yourself for $300, I know a few mechanics so hopefully they can do it cheap for cash in hand

Sorry for my ignorance. But would I need to get the Timing Belt Kit or Timing Belt?
You'll want to do the whole kit. All the belts will be at the same level of wear & tear, and if one of them go, it could mean a whole new engine.

They are about 2.5 hours labour. Mitsubishi charge about 500. Somewhere else with non genuine parts would be cheaper. Dont bother with the water pump they rarely ever go on a magna. The only thing that could be worth doing is the tensioner as they can lose pressure over time but if you are strapped for cash just go the belt and you should be ok.

Give Mal from Mits Fix a call if you're in Melbourne. He will do the job properly and charge you very fair rates. He runs the Magna forum and he knows all there is to know about these cars. I think the 100k service needs some other things too like new plugs (rear bank long life and front bank standard) and fuel filter etc. May as well do it all.

I think I paid $500 a few years back for my timing belt at 100k. Probably inflated towards the other end of your scale now.

100k for timing belt is pretty standard but you have to be careful of the cheap service up sells.

I got my tyres done and decided to get a cheapo service just for the oil/filter change at the same time. I went to a chain store in SE Melbourne that turned out to be run by an ex v8 driver. They suggested I needed the front brake pads replaced - I had had them done 12 months prior. Dodgy campaigners. None of the other mechanics have mentioned them 3 services on...

Hello Mal!

Thought this was going to be an Astra TS thread for a minute.
i had a timing chain go in one of them... that was $2500 i'll never see again

Had a Hyundai years ago that was due for a major service that needed this done, service ended up costing over a grand. A week later driving home nearly midnight car loses all power when accelerating, was about 10 minutes from home and managed to crawl home slowly. Started it the next day and went for a short drive, problem was gone. Knowing bugger all about cars thought nothing of it, 2-3 weeks later engine develops an oil leak as I'm driving and within 10 minutes the low oil light is on. Traded the car in the next day. I would be hesitant to use mates rates mechanics for a job like this based on the experience I had.
