The AFL would argue that their formula is statically based on market value
Yes, and either way Kurt was worth a hell of a lot more than a 2nd rounder.

Yeah can't believe he was only rated a second rounder at the timeW
No one had any idea at the time what we'd receive for Kurt if he had gone to GC as an uncontracted signing. However it would have been either band 1 or band 2 compo, not band 4 as you're suggesting, which is either 1 or 2 first round draft picks. A second round pick was always going to be well below market value.

To the best of my knowledge, he was asked to bring his retirement forward. Not sure why, the timing might suggest there is some relationship to the current issue, but that would purely be a guess. It will be if you let us knowpm or otherwise

in the press release they called it an extension though. When he signed his new contract it definitely included a re-negotiated deal for 2010.
They essentially ripped up his old deal and the new 3 year deal including a re-negotiated deal for 2010 replaced it.
So does anyone know if the AFC have top notch lawyers that can did us out of this??![]()

I think Trigg's time is up no matter how this endsOK. This piece actually makes sense. In contract negotiations you often get to a point where you think you have a deal, all parties are about to sign and then one party (in this case Tippett) pulls out and says 'no deal unless you give me more', knowing the other party because of corporate need or public pressure is over a barrel. It's often at this point the mistake gets made. In this case the Crows simply should have said 'b*gger off, you clearly you don't want to be part of our club, so go home' and then got on the front foot informed the Board (high profile point appointment) and handled it with the members and the public. The screams of outrage would have died down and life would have continued as we know it
I think this is lesson leaned and we won't see a repeat of such poor decision-making again. However, depending on the AFL findings, Triggy and anyone else involved in this piece of stupidity should now be on notice. Any sniff of a repeat and they're gone. We're all allowed one mistake of this type - not two.

Rooch missed the biggest story of the year because he was having a make-over......

SCARY!
But probably the best you could expect given the raw material...
If I remember reading correctly, a second rounder would have been our compensation if Tips would have gone to the GC back in 2009, so that was what they considered "market value" as ill conceived as that is

Im happy to listen, what would be the basis of band 1 or 2
What band did we receive for Bock? Surely at the time Bock would of been assessed as a higher band than Tippett?
Understand how you could say that. In the field I work in substantive and procedural fairness must apply. And in this case if it is applied justly and mitigation is considered and the court of public opinion doesn't prevail (it shouldn't IMO), then judging by the little we know, severe sanctions should apply but probably not termination IMO.I think Trigg's time is up no matter how this ends

Didn't he get a role a Brisbane after leaving AdelaideHe retired which he announced 12 months prior
Didn't he get a role a Brisbane after leaving Adelaide
At that point of time he had only played 43 game
This was touched on this morning by Rucci on 5aa. When we were negotiating the contract extension three years ago the compensation for a player like Tippett going to the Gold Coast was a second round draft pick. With the expectation that they would lose Gary Ablett, Geelong successfully lobbied the AFL to rethink the compensation picks and had Tippett gone to the Gold Coast at the end of 2010 we would have received a first round draft pick. This was one of the contentious facts between the AFC and the clubs trying to pick up Tippett this year.
I believe this was all outlined in some detail about 15,000 posts earlier in this thread![]()
Reports we've lost all picks this year?
Throw in the two first rounders we SHOULD HAVE got for Tippett, and Trigg can **** off.
If that sanction is true, he needs to resign, immediately.
Davis 18 games for Adelaide = 1st round compensation pick following the clubs 1st selection in draft
Scully 31 games for Melbourne = 2 1st round compensation picks, one following the clubs 1st pick, the 2nd in the middle of the 1st round.
Ward 60 games for Bulldogs = 1st round compensation pick following the clubs 1st selection in draft
Tippo would have warranted at least a 1st round pick if he had gone to the suns, I have no doubt about this. Age was a factor in the compensation, and Tippett only being 22 at the time would have worked in our favour.
