Re: Todays top five.

Given it changes depending on mood;

Release The Bats-The Birthday Party

I can remember the moment in time when I first heard this and it turned my suburban world around in a matter of weeks. It's as if I was just waiting for something like this to come along and I discovered a whole lifestyle I'd been yearning for. I dont know whether it changed my life for better or worse but it's been a wild ride finding out.

I Dont Mind-The Buzzcocks

Pete Shelley could have spent a week in my head and written this straight after.

I'm Sick Of You-Iggy And The Stooges

Best song by my favourite band.

Eternally Yours-The Laughing Clowns and Died Pretty

Two great versions of the same song by two great Australian bands.

Rise Above-Black Flag

If a British band released a song as full as anger, spite and humour as this we'd hail it as a masterpiece.

This week's top plays on the CD player.....

C'mon - The Wet Taxis
Rocking in the Free World - Neil Young
Children of the Revolution - TRex
Lively Arts - The Damned
Don't send me Roses - The Saints

Its been a big week of rock with Motley in town and me suitably taking a few days off work and turning back the clock for a week of good old fashioned rock and roll debauchery of varying descriptions. My head hates me, everything hurts and i still cant see properly but it is Motley after all! When in Rome...

Hence, my 5 fav tunes of the week are:

1. 10 Seconds to Love - Motley Crue (Shout at the Devil)
Just a killer rock tune. Switch ya brain off and have fun to some of the most unashamedly and horribly cheesy lyrics ever penned.

For example:

"Bring a girlfriend
Maybe bring two
I got my camera
Make a star outta you
Let’s inject it
Photograph it
Down to the subway
Let the other boys have it..."

Lyrical genius courtesy of Nikki Sixx!

But if you're a Crue fan or just into good old fashioned big hair hard rock and if your girl or fella will let ya, i implore you to get rough and ready with this tune as the sound track. You'll feel so rock it will hurt!

2. Dr Feelgood - Motley Crue (Dr Feelgood).
The intro to this tune features one of the heaviest, phattest and most addictive grooves you will ever hear and the whole song is just a killer. Tommy is god.

3. Power to the Music - Motley Crue (Self Titled).
Yes i obviously idolise Tommy Lee. He is the reason i and many other's of my generation play drums. While he may be as bigger rock star as they come and has certainly had his fair share of bad press, NO ONE can EVER question his drumming skills. The man is a pure technician, a monstor hitter all while being a ridiculous showman. If you want a 5 minute education in hard rock drumming and why Tommy Lee is one of the absolute very of all time, here it is. Its monstrous. (but ignore the lyrics as they're terrible)

4. Primal Scream - Motley Crue (Decade of Decadence)
Ditto previous. Tommy was always a gun, but from the Dr Feelgood era onwards was when he really started coming into his own. Killer tune and a wicked performance by the T-Bone, not to mention Mick Mars blowing it to pieces with one of his best ever guitar tracks, especially his solo.

5. Live Wire - Motley Crue (Too Fast For Love)
It cannot be argued against that Motley have some pretty ordinary tunes in their rep list over the years. But when Nikki got it right, he nailed it. This is one of his absolute best and was actually the first tune that was completed in Vince's first jam with the band. IMO it defines that whole era of hard rock.

I understand why alot of people dont take Motley seriously. I dont think they really ever wanted to be. But while the hair, the make up, the silly lyrics and the outrageous antics result in alot of people trashing them, it wasn't all sh*ts and giggles. They rocked as hard as anyone back in their day and still do.

And man can that drummer play!

Absolutely!

New Slang would probably be my third favourite song of this decade behind Radiohead's Everything In It's Right Place and The Arcade Fire's Wake Up. It really is a classic indie pop song- James Mercer is one of the best songwriters and lyricists of our time.

Do You Realise is held in similar esteem to these songs too!

Coming into Los Angeles-Arlo Guthrie
Love Letter-Nick Cave
I'm Moving On-Ray Charles
Stardust Memories-Willie Nelson
Miracle in Marrickville-John Kennedy and Love Gone Wrong.

Bit of a country mood today.

My menu for today:

1. Noisia DOA mix.........Just. Can't. Stop. Listening. To. It. (listening now) Plus, it wakes me up. Nasty PHAT drum n bass. Makes me wanna dance. But I'm too tired from Meredith.

2. Wolfmother album......... bought the album friday but didn't get a chance to listen to it, saw them at Meredith on Sat night, now it's time to really listen to the album. (they were ********ing great at Meredith by the way) Makes me wanna smoke some ganja. But i've quit.

3. John B - Future Reference album........it arrived Friday (import), but haven't had a chance to listen due to being away all weekend....it's a few years old, and at times very cheesy, drum n bass....but still cool. John B rocks. Makes me wanna pop E's. But it's only Monday.

4. Pollyanna - Longplayer.......cos I saw someone had Lemonsuck on their list and i thought "there's an album i haven't listened to for years!" Their best album by a long way too. First I gotta find it though..... Makes me wanna play guitar and sing. But i broke my strings and lost my voice (and brain) at Meredith.

5. Noisia DOA mix.......Just. Can't. Stop. Listening. To. It.

"I taped her on the shoulder and do you have a beau? She looked at me and smiled and said she did not know."
One of the greatest song lines ever written:D

Currently listening to some brit pop from the 90's on a compilation a mate made up for me.

Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
If you tolerate this - Manic Street Preachers
Sit down - James

If you don't have any Mojo Nixon, your store could use some fixin!

Local Yokel - can you do me up an MP3 of your song collection!!!!

There's so much stuff there that I love but couldn't hope to buy within the next 10 years!

You mentioned Mr Floppy before - I haven't heard of them for ages.

I heard some of their stuff in the early 90s, inclduing a cover version of that Australian Crawl song.

But for some reason I can't think of it at the moment - every time I try to I get TISM's Get Thee to the Nunnery going in my head (came out around the same time I think).

What a wodnerful little set!

This is how it feels when the world means nothing at all!!!!!

But of all the great songs there - I think Sit Down is the best.

Such a great sing a long song! But one I've never got to sing a long with anyone else - no one I know has heard of it.
