Had a decent chat with a Bombers supporter at work today.

Apparently Bellchambers is out of contract this year? Forgive me if im wrong.

What do you think of Him helping out Jamar in the Ruck next year or even a tall target up forward?

I have always rated the bloke.

Trade Worthy?

And why would he leave Essendon exactly?

He's good enough to get into the best 22 even with Ryder and Hille in the side, and I doubt money will be an issue.

Don't know if I should have started a new thread on this one.

I heard Jackson Trengove is out of contract this year and the tigers are after him big time. I think if he is set of leaving we should try and go after him. He's a very good player and can play in the ruck and up forward.

Interesting- we could reunite him with his better brother :p

In all seriousness though, we should definitely have a look if that's true. He will be a star one day. Is he already part of Ports 'leadership group'?

Really? lol kinda like when Gibbs was put in Carlton's as soon as he got there lol

Yeah it's true, I heard it on the footy show a few months back, I'm pretty sure Damien Barrett broke the news. Who would be give up for him? We would have to lose a pretty good player for him. I hope no one says Morton :(

I don't mind the idea, but I don't see it happening.

I think more likely would be Bombers re-sign Bellchambers and trade Ryder to GWS to one of their 17yo or a pick.

Ryder needs to play first ruck. He thrives in that position. He is a see the ball, get the ball type player, and he needs to be constantly involved. Gives GWS a good ruckman, and gives the Bombers a chance to add another decent mid.

It's amazing how in one pre-season Bellchambers turned from a ****** into Jeff White all of sudden. Shows that eventually it just clicks for the big men. Hopefully some people around here might give Pencil some leeway.

What's wrong with Stef Martin? I think he's really taken a massive step up this year! To the point where he has literally taken the back up ruck spot as his own! Still young and learning as well. With Gawn coming along nicely, we could potentially be ok in the ruck stocks in the next few years. Not sure we need to chase a ruckman just yet. A full forward with some presence should be our number 1 priority in the off season. Along with 1 or 2 pacey midfielders...

I agree- especially if the club are still confident of Gawn making it.

That said the opportunity to get Jackson Trengove would be very appealing due to his ability to play forward- not so sure about Bellchambers.

I thought Hille was more likely to be let go?

Martin will never be able to play forward, but Gawn should be able to snag a mark or two. Either way if we got Bellchambers it would mean Jamar goes forward, and whilst he's handy up there he might struggle playing full time there.

If we had to spend for a ruckman I'd be more interested in someone who can play forward and back up in the ruck.

Key forward or skilled outside player (half back/wing) is what I'd look to trade for.

I'm not sure this sub rule will be staying much longer tbh. So I wouldn't be putting all our eggs in the one basket and trade heavily for a forward who can also play ruck. I think we need a pure full forward in the Dawes type who will contest and give us a long option in our F50. Right now we are far too small in our F50. Watts plays too high up the gorund, Cook is years away from having any impact, and is basically a Watts clone, and the rest are all mid to small sized forwards. Fitzpatrick fits the bill, but has one major flaw, he can't kick. If he fixes this issue with his game and continues to bulk up, he could become the man we need at Full Forward. IF. But it won't hurt to get another KPF on our list, and it should be a priority...

Don't get me wrong my first priority would be a Full Forward type. But I also think if someone in the Leigh Brown mold came along we should have a look at them. If you've given up on Newton then Fitzpatrick is our best and only go here (he's too unco to ever be a straight FF). Regardless on whether the sub rule stays or goes the 1 main ruck and 1 forward/ruck will stay in fashion unless teams can produce 2 players capable of both (Cox/Naitanui, Hille/Ryder the best examples so far). Even in that case you might get a better set up if you have a designated FF player and a designated Ruck for most of the game.

Also light bodied young forwards can become full forward types - see Jack Riewoldt. Don't give up on Cook becoming a FF type or even Watts, but it will take time if it's going to happen at all.
