Wasnt able to watch the game due to playing footy, just wondering how he went because apparently he's a fair good player.

In short: Very Good!

Started on Hansen and spent time on Petrie amognst others. Defensively for such a youngster who hasn't had a real go at a preseason it was not a surprise that he struggled a little. He also spent time at half forward and was lively. But was very composed with the ball both running from defence and going inside 50. He had two of the highlights of the day - played on from the kickout and bombed it to someone over the top of their opponent and out on the wing, and - marked on half forward and turned round and hit Newton with a brilliant lace out delivery.

So he looked reasonable by hand and foot, nice and creative, didn't back away from the contest. He just needs more game time and a couple of good preseasons.

The downside was that he sat out most of the final quarter (if not all) with what looked like a hip injury (same injury that made him miss several weeks?).

It's only one game but he could be the type of player at a really nice in between height to release Garland and Grimes to the forward and midfield respectively.

Thankyou for that i was really eager to see how he went and going by what you said he had a good day for a first gamer. Our backline looks really strong now with depth which we rarely have in the past. Im going to keep a close eye on McNamara i really like him. :)

I listened to the radio and the ABC blokes liked the look of him.

Just a side note. What's with everyone wanting Garland in the forward line? Remember at the start of 2008 when we were calling for his head hewas playing in the forward line? I remember people saying that he looked lost and didn't have a clue what to do there.

I agree with Garland, i dont like him up forward but down back he was impressive.

Warnock Garland Frawley
McNamara Rivers Grimes

sounds strong to me, and also free's up thel ikes of Bruce and Green and others that have had to play HB due to injuries.

They were his first games at AFL level! We've been very critical of our youngsters and they've come good after their first few games (Garland, Jetta, Maric etc.).

He's always been a forward at junior level, so has the general smarts to succeed in that position at AFL level.

The good thing in general though is that it is great that we've been able to develop so many options...all that "experimentation" seems to be paying off in terms of building a list.

Ridiculously tall. Talented, but tall.

I liked the look of McNamara, impressed with his footskills, just appeared a little slow off the mark at times. Lots of scope for improvement, worth persisting with. Could easily push for a spot in the next few years.
