Always liked Tony. We don't get SEN in the ACT so there isn't alot of choice.

Quite like Trevor Chappell as well. Did anybody ever hear that phone call he took from a guy who had been 'taken' by a creature near the Pillaga Forrest. That was damn creepy. I won on Trevor's quiz with a question about an Australian olympic swimmer - can't remember who it was now. Won a DVD that I gave to my parents.

Rod Quinn is ok too, as long as you don't ask him for an opinion.

When in Melbourne, I must admit to being a fan of Red Symons as well. Although I to tend to find myself listening to SEN when I am within broadcast range.
Oh man the Pillaga stuff was indeed creepy as, especially when you are going to sleep with a radio on like I do.

And Tony just had that radio voice and professionalism in spades, will be missed.

was he talking to tony?
No the guy in the studio was Trevor Chappell's producer at the time known as Pav. Can't remember his first name but his surname was Pavlich - a cousin of Matthew. Trevor was in the Pillaga Forest at the time of the call which was why Bongo was so upset.

so many radio people should learn from tony

His voice - he has got a perfect radio voice - it's laid back yet professional. His interviewing style is conversational as well. The abc radio guys get paid **** all as well!'

contrast that with the buffons we get on radio these days, sen in particular

Whatever Tony was like as a presenter, he was a master when it came to the Challenge.

He made it fun and companionable, allowing brains trusts without a quibble and giving clues — and he was good at that. I don't know who abolished brains trusts and clues on the Nightlife but it isn't as much fun anymore. In fact, I have to turn it off sometimes when I'm reminded of these restrictions. Most of the time, I don't listen to it at all for this reason. It's not a contest requiring Draconian rules; it's just a chance for people to get together, chew the fat, show off their knowledge a bit, and maybe, just maybe, answer the last question correctly and win a little something. It's not a life or death struggle to win. It still isn't, but still. It's a sign of the times really—more rules and restrictions.

I miss Tony on the Challenge.

It's easy to make rules, but not so easy to have an imagination.

He was never terribly controversial - except once I remember. He had this blowhard on who was campaigning for wine to be more expensive and therefore more of a luxury. Tony listened but then was like "what about the older pensioner out there whose one pleasure in life is to have one or two glasses from a cask?" He kept challenging the jerk - it was so great the way he stood by his audience, rare on the top-down ABC

I keep hearing Anne of Caulfield on 3AW, Denis Walter's 10:30pm challenge.

She has not changed from TD days. "Oh can you just give me a hint..like the first 3 letters in a four letter answer and an idea of the last letter, like is it between C & E?"

Man I haven't listened to that timeslot in yeaaaaars. I remember listening to Bruce and Phil when I was a kid on my walkman in bed. Lol I was such a dork.
I also recall even taping the sports show if I couldnt listen to it live.

Is this quiz any good???

5 questions, usually on a theme and being Denis Walter, the questions & or answers are music and or film related in many ways.

They are very quick with the lash though. Not a lot of time to answer.

Good start to listen, Thursdays @ 1030pm with the quiz then Films and TV with Paul Harris. Very good half hour to 45 minutes of radio.
