Claremont product to earn Pies elevation

Claremont product Alan Toovey is expected to be elevated to Collingwood's senior list on a two-year deal when the Pies announce their official list changes in the next week.

Toovey was in solid form in the VFL this season, forming part of a dominant Williamstown defense.

The medium-sized defender was selected in the 2005 WAFL Colts Team of the Year and played League finals the same year before Collingwood picked him up in the rookie draft.

The first list lodgement deadline is Tuesday, October 31.

Awesome news if true. Was friends with Toovs when he lived down this way. Saw him about 4 or so weeks ago at my mates place. Told me he thought the only chance of getting promoted was if Cloke got the boot. He expected to stay for a 2nd year on the rookie list. Nice to hear things have changed. Said he likes it at Collingwood alot more then he would of thought he would and is learning alot from Clement to help his game. I think he could crack a game down back especially if Wakelin is moved out of the team
 
Good news, I think, although we already have an abundance of defenders, one more can't hurt. Has a bit of toe about him always likes to back himself in, before taking 2 - 3 bounces and "roasting" it long.

I am seriously stunned, that we are elevating a rookie to the senior list that hasn't played AFL football yet, and hasn't shown incredible form at Williamstown. I am not giving it to the kid, as from what I've seen and read, he is a good prospect, however, I don't think we should be elevating players onto the senior list after half a season in the VFL. Cox seems a better prospect personally, and if anyone would dash onto the seniors, I would think it would be him.

Obviously though, I guess we have added yet again, a big cleanout to our list, with retirees with it. Therefore, two rookie elevations are looking more likely than two picks in the pre-season draft.

I can handle the decision, although like Lf50, I haven't seen his best games. He was in the best a few times, even first named at one stage.

Can't question his ethic or athletic attributes. Height and polish are the question marks. A defender's defender!

As F-U said, Jason getting the boot is enough to ensure a spot for him.

Hopefully we don't drop the ball in looking at another KP defender (around 44) at the latest.

I agree but by the way MM spoke post season I presume this is accurate and he will be promoted.

But he's only been at Collingwood a year, so how did he get to become MM's love child in such a short time? More likely that the coaching panel see something in him that suggests he is good enough to play in the seniors.

So that they know how to split them up for intra club practice matches.

Toovey is shorter than Ryan Lonie, so he definitely wouldn't qualify as a tall.

I want to see him turned into a run-with player though - He's got the speed and athleticism, he just needs to build up the tank.
