1. Kiss your family good bye for a few months.
2. Accept that some family & friends are going to call you an idiot. (For how much time you spend & that you constantly talk about SC)
3. Just because Judd Magic is trading like crazy, you don't have to.:p

1. If in doubt DONT DO THE TRADE

ummm...hang on, how many trades now ? Those days might be gone.

2. Just buy Buckley, Tredrea, Riewoldt and Goodes, then fill the rest up with anyone.

Well..u know wot i mean.

3. Dont buy Mark Nickoski.

Most important rule of the lot and still applies.

1. You don't have to get rid of rookies as soon as they fail to hit their breakeven. Plenty of players (especially rookies) go through lean patches and come back stronger.

2. By all means take a punt on a couple of players, but if half your team are coming back from injury or are midpricers you're hoping will end up as guns, you're going to be in trouble.

3. If you're going for a league win, pick players from teams who have an easy draw in the finals. It worked for me, anyway

Oh and it goes without saying that any premiums you start with you should expect to finish with.

1 - Look at other people's teams and take note of the players continually listed.

2 - Find a few sites dedicated to SC and read what's posted on them.

3 - Read team boards and look for their starting 22 threads to see if the players you're thinking of are likely to get games.

1. Look at teams that have previously won the $50k - how their team started, how they traded (a good one for seasoned veterans too)

2. You should make two trades after Rd 2 to correct your starting team before the first price change. This is a good time to get rid of the rookies who you thought would play/do well and replace them with cheap rookies that have started really well that you don't have.

3. If one of your gun players gets an injury early and is expected to be out for a few weeks, trade them out.

1. Trade early and often. The best teams have used all their trades by rnd 16 or so.
2. Height height and more height. Height is absolutely key to SC scores.
3. Left footers. Hear me out! Left footers very quietly receive a significant bump in SC scores due to a quirk in the kicking efficency stats.

i need to research point 3.. but jesus that has me interested

1. Triple check your team on the eve of the season - make sure everyone is set to play.
2. Each rookie you squeeze into your 30 is another premium player you squeeze into your starting 22. Ideally, you want to profit big time by selling your rookies later in the season.
3. The mid range players who are on the verge of a break out year can make or break you.

No. 3 is pretty important, vital I'd say, but it can be a matter of separating the wheat from the chaff. There are even some apps around that have injury lists and break evens and more in depth analysis', but I have yet to download any. Will post the name of the apps if I find the one.

A few questions from a relative newb

How much cash do you want available at the start of the season?

Most number of players from 1 team in your side?

Do you need DPP players on every line at start of season? If not then which ones are most required?

1. Try not to be biased when selecting your team. Don't just pick the flashy players or those that play for the team you support.
2. Shy away from key position players.
3. This year, make sure Ablett, Goddard, Gibbs, O'Meara and Viney are in your team. You will regret it if you don't.

1. Doesn't really matter. As long as you're happy with your team, any cash left over is a bonus.

2. Doesn't really matter as long as you're aware of bye weeks (only your best 18 scorers on the field will count, but you still need 18 on the field). Some people are worried they take points from each other (because of SC's 3300 point cap per game), but you'll find that the premiums take points from the 36 non-premiums each game.

3. Nah. You find them more useful later in the year when you start running low on trades, but starting off it doesn't matter as much.

You don't need much left over to be honest. You want to compile the best team you can and if you have money left over, then it's a bonus. If you really want a figure, I guess $50,000 - $100,000 puts you in great stead. But again, don't compromise your team to get a few extra bucks in the bank, that's not wise.

I would say no more than 2 in one position. I made the error of having Swan, Pendles and Daisy two years ago and it wasn't fun. However, having multiple players from good teams is a good thing as there are inevitably be more points going around. I myself have 5 Collingwood players this year and I would guess that should be about the limit.

DPP aren't essential. More often than not, you will find yourself playing them in the position you originally got them for. However this year, I would say the Staker/Bock/Broughton DEF/FWD combo is a must.

I also have a question for you seasoned professionals. There are a few mid pricers that I simply can't split.

1. Ball or Embley
2. Knights, Byrnes or Varcoe
2. Lecras or Kennedy
3. T.Walker, Bartel or Martin

Ball is the more complete player with high disposal counts and tackles. However, he is progressing slightly slower than expected and might take a while to get back up to full fitness. Embley is apparently fit and roaring, but he is unlikely to feature in West Coast's midfield and play on the flanks, which may hurt his scoring.

All three are genuine chances to play every game next year.

Scoring Potential
Varcoe>Knights>Byrnes

Job Security
Byrnes>Knights>Varcoe

Kennedy or Lecras. Lecras is coming off a more serious injury but has the higher ceiling. Kennedy's scoring may be erratic but he has a knack of kicking bags.

And the age old question. Rising KPF in a good team, a veteran mid who tackles or the young gun with potential?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR cant decide

1. Don't pick the very high priced first year players (I'm looking at you Whitfield and Stringer)
2. Don't be afraid to pick Ablett, he's that price for a reason
3. Pick durable players.
