Torrent Trouble

Being in Japan, i have recently got into downloading torrents (for footy, tv shows) but have encounted a problem. I download the torrents then use utorrent, but some of the files are avi files (as aposed to mp4 files) and these automatically open up in media player (as aposed to quicktime), but only play the sound . When it shows what is playing on the right, it has a red x next to the name. Why is this? How can i fix it?
