Another Curly Seal-style tote rort looks to have occurred last night at the Ballarat dogs, go check out the UniTAB win pool sizes for races one to five:

1 - $7.3k
2 - $7.0k
3 - $8.6k
4 - $53.2k
5 - $8.0k

The winner of race four paid $2.30 (NSW), $2.80 (VIC) and $44.00 (QLD).

The second dog was paying $1.00 the win in QLD....

Yes i was watching the races at home and following on the internet. Looks like about $45,000 was placed on the 3 dog, who ran second. It happened about as minute before the race, spewing that i didnt get on :(

Apparantly was an error made by a clerk working for one of the corporates.

Keyed in $50000 by mistake and the bet went through.

Whooops!!

Thats a double blow. Seems to be a few errors happening lately.

But I suppose they are reasonably covered with the payout limited to $25.00 on greyhound win/place bets for most accounts.

I don't think its the winner that would hurt - more the 50K they put on the second dog that went south.

Would be a 75k loss based on just those two happenings for that agency.

But those other agencies that offer Unitab dividends on the greyhounds. I don't think they would have appreciated the mistake on a reasonably hot favourite. Especially since plenty of experts out there had Rocks Back as top selection.

I guess they don't read the receipt of the bet all the time.

hmm, take out that 50k bet then it's an unusually small pool

good point about those betting agencies who have to pay out on unitab odds tho

Im pretty sure they changed that after the last incident, so they would pay on the average of the 3 different totes. This would still have averaged the winner out at around $15 though.

Nobody pays "average tote" odds.

The payment you would be thinking of would be based on "beats two totes" or "beats middle tote" - in this case would stil be in the 6/4 region and nothing like 15s.
