I used to live there from 1992-1999 just before boom era. I know it's huge there with some of my relatives and friends still there and I visit from time to time. :thumbsu:

When coming up Clyde Road from the south, it just gets closer towards the cow paddocks of Clyde every time. Is Berwick South or Berwick Springs an actual suburb yet? Because if it isn't, it is classified as Berwick, and I reckon would be top 3 pop in Melbourne.

I lived there for a year in the mid 70's and my two sisters still live there.

Maybe getting bigger, still in the stix though!

Not necessarily. Metropolitan Melbourne is now as far as 60km with the urban sprawl (Pakenham). Berwick is only 45km, but there are still several paddocks. Guys Hill hasn't got any plans to change yet I don't think, so it will always be the stix.

Sticks doesn't mean 45km from the CBD though, generally means it is not in the metropolitan area, BTW Nar Nar Goon in 25 yrs will be like what Berwick was 5 years ago! That is country and will then be inside the metropolitan boundary.

City>Suburb>Sticks>Country
Melbourne>Berwick>Upper Beac>Nar Nar Goon

Anyway, i am guessing no-one has an idea of how to get these figures?

I used to live 15km's from the city and people said I lived in the sticks. People who live even just one suburb closer in than you, will tell you that you live in the sticks. Whether its metro or not it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I now live about 35km's out...so now I just hear it a little more than I used to.

The funny thing is, I'm out further but its quicker to get into the city now because I'm on the freeway...except when the traffic is :D:D:D:D.

How long does it take to get to the CBD, Lonie?

It wiould be interesting to see a comparison between there and here, because I live 20 kms directly north of Adelaide - Paralowie, and it takes somewhere between 25-30 mins to get to the CBD of Adelaide.

This is from Wikipedia:

According to the City of Casey website, the population of Berwick is estimated to be 34,772 as of 2006, making it home to almost one percent of Melbourne.

Cheers spell_check

BTW - Takes 25 mins on a weekend to get to the city. Don't know about peak hour traffic though.

Wow thats massive

Here are some averages I have worked out.

Berwick holds .94% of Melbourne's population
On average each suburb holds 7,537 people
Berwick has more than 27,000 more people on average than any other suburb in Melbourne. That is 461% more on average!

That would require an average speed of 108 km/h ;)

120 kmh= 22.50 minutes
115 kmh= 23.48 minutes
110 kmh= 24.55 minutes
105 kmh= 25.71 minutes
100 kmh= 27.00 minutes
95 kmh= 28.42 minutes
90 kmh= 30.00 minutes
85 kmh= 31.76 minutes
80 kmh= 33.75 minutes
75 kmh= 36.00 minutes
70 kmh= 38.57 minutes
65 kmh= 41.54 minutes
60 kmh= 45.00 minutes
55 kmh= 49.09 minutes
50 kmh= 54.00 minutes
45 kmh= 60.00 minutes

Takes more than 25 mins Lonie!

To Punt Road from Berwick usually takes 25-30 minutes on weekends. Seriously, I time it (no joke ;))

Last month took only 35 mins to my uni in Footscray. Good traffic, YES, but 35 mins!
2 months back took 50 mins to get to Werribee.

I assume there is a freeway or highway of some sort to get to Melbourne from your place, Lonie, from mine to Adelaide, it's Port Wakefield Road, then Main North Road. There is a satellite which gives you a nice idea on what I'm talking about - its' about a year and a bit old, but nothings' changed on that route.

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-34.750,138.633&spn=0.015,0.025&t=k

Salisbury is in the bottom right hand corner - move the blue square directly west until you see Port Wakefield Road in the little box. Adelaide is south from here.

Yeah, the main freeway (Monash) is right at Berwick's front door now, so it cuts off that time.

I once stayed in Pooraka, north of Adelaide, a couple years back when I came over to see the Footy. I believe that is closer to the city than where you live. Not too sure though. One question though, how do you pronounce it. We didn't know if it was poor or poo.
