Trade Kenny

After watching yesterday's game, I don't believe Kenny has been injured up until yesterday. I have given the boy plenty of chances and told people to stop bagging but after watching him this year, I have been getting frustrated watching him fall to ground and not hold marks that he should be holding. I don't believe falling to ground is part of the game plan and also he struggles with his kicking which is disappointing.

I have been a strongly "querying" Kennys value longterm to the team.

What I would say is that Kenny should not be considered our first line attacking option .....he is a support player, a tall utility who should be viewed as providing KP depth at the club.

I think most supporters particularly when we've been travelling well have put him on too higher pedestal.

The AFC continues it's strong need for a forward KPP and I'm sure we'll be trying in the drat to get one, however I wouldn't trade Kenny at this point.

Yeah he's not much good on long leads.. he's not the quickest bloke around and gets gobbled up on leads far too easily. Pack marking he seems ok.

I wouldn't go as far as calling for Kenny to be traded - (although every player has a price) - fact is that Kenny's natural abilities are not in demand in the AFL atm.

Kenny's body is not at it's best - we know that - and he has been thrashed as the lead up / roaming forward all year because there's been no-one else to perform that role. That work has been taking it's toll for some time.

The way it is set up atm, he gets caught at about 60m out after leading up the ground, and then needs to turn quickly and find a leading option with a flat pass....that's his role......but alas - that is not part of Kenny's skill set.

I think defensive roles have past him by - by virtue of the style that we and other teams play - ie running rebounding quarterbacks - and so it could be that one of the last places for him on the ground is a deep tall marking target.

Hopefully we can restructure enough to shuffle him back into his comfort zone because atm he is being asked to do stuff that doesn't come naturally.

I agree about playing him on the goal line but we've been saying Kenny's been injured even last year......just an excuse if you ask me

His kicking action as been very much about a exagerrated crouch over the ball and quick run in using momentum to get the ball thru and straight.
You know that was fundamentally Blight's philosphy (don't know about the crouching)

It seems looking at Kenny in recent weeks he has made a conscious
effort to stand more upright and hold the ball a little further from the body....so he's aware of the problem.

No-one wants to chuck him out, but if a 2nd tier KPP with deficiencies who has reached his peak but is still held in some regard by other clubs isn't tradeable then who is?

It's called being aggressive in trade week, something we've never been good at due to naivety and misplaced sentimentalism.

when kenny is playing well, everyone loves him and he's the best thing since sliced bread..

but as soon as his form drops / or he is possibly playing with and carrying an injury, he is no good (apparently)

we all know what kenny is capable of. he is a wonderful player. he is not somebody that would even look at trading, we need him.

irrespective of the other relevant considerations, selling low (after his worst yr in recent history) doesnt make much sense

I think most of the comments relate to the fact he is probably being asked to do a lot of additonal work this year and this is putting him outside his comfort zone. This together with his body not being 100% is really taking it's toll.

I certainly don't advocate getting rid of him - but I think Ken's role needs some serious consideration next year in terms of where he plays - not whether he plays.

Agreed. His lack of form is also exaggerated by the fact that he hasn't had the support of Perrie and Welsh for the greater part of the year.

It also means that he has been guaranteed of getting one of the 2 best opposition defenders each week. When Hentschell, Perrie, Welsh and Mcgregor have been in the same side in the past, he has even had the 4th string defender at times, a privilege he hasn't enjoyed in recent times.

I think many others are not looking at the bigger picture and conveniently need a scape goat for the teams current patchy form.

Not stupid, just no great potential reward.
He isn't a head turning player, someone might like him but they are more likely to find something more worthwhile in the draft.

Yep, let's show some loyalty to a player who has busted his gut for us.

While we're at it Roo seems to be out of sorts the last three weeks..........trade him.

Kenny will never be a Wayne Carey, and admittadly hasn't been going to well this year, but he is still a very handy player who can play both ends of the ground. Hell, he spanked Pavlich big time earlier this year.

The focus shouldn't be on trading away players unless there is a serious problem with that player (eg Tarrant, Gardiner). The focus needs to be on trading in players. If we get an offer for Kenny that is to our benefit, we should take it because he isn't a crucial player in our line up.

Having said that, Kenny obviously is being stretched and is not comfortable in his role. He really is a 2nd tier player and in full strength side might not even be in our 22. HF has always been a weakness at our club which is often filled with players who are not necessarily natural HFs. Nonetheless, I don't see any alternate strategy currently available to us unless we can get our hands on Pav.

He will never set the light on fire.. he'll just always be a handy player who will give good service to any club who has him. He will play 250 games+. KPP are very hard to find and Kenny has done a good job just to play as many games as he has.
