I think we should trade axel. He's 25 turning 26 next year and will most likely not be here for our next premiership , so we should trade foley while he still commands a first round pick (10-15) . We could grab polec with pick 6 and harper with the pick we recieve. Harper can be our didak kind of player and he's going to be defeintly a upgrade over white.

No, no, no NO! Can any one rember how good he was 2-3 seasons ago? Him sprinting from the center square no one catching him and then him kicking a goal? Hardwick & Co have wraped him up in cotten woll to make sure his fine and ready for a full pre season and good to go round one i bet my bottom dollar this time text year after a full season Foley will be a "must keep player"! I rate Foley very high and it would take a VERY good offer to let him go.

What a terrible time to trade a genuine top line player - after he has been injured for 2 season - it would be utter stupidity

That goes the same with Tambling - god know why we would want to trade him at this moment, especially while we still have him under contract:confused:

We are lacking players who are in that age bracket. Why make it even worse? We should be getting more good players who are between 23 and 26 years of age.

I would be reluctant to trade him, having said that he certainly isn't untouchable.
To just flat out say no is stupid.

tis true

only trade him for the right price when he is up and going he is in the top echelon of mids going around i reckon we should keep him it would seem a wast of time trading for sherman if we trade axel but if we get a top 5 draft pick for him then i would think about it

I dont think to many teams would pay over the top for him since he has been injured for the last couple of years. Geelong might have a look at him to just keep there window open a few extra years but probably dont have room in there cap.

Agree.

I want to keep him but you would have to explore offers instead of just saying flat out no. For example if West Coast offered pick 4 I'd take it in a heartbeat. Very unlikely though.

I would consider it after all we do not want another Coughlan.

If there is any doubt about a full recovery then trade him better to err on the safe side.

Can't understand some of the logic on this board lately:confused:

We are contemplating trading/PSD for Sherman and Houli:confused:

We are contemplating trading tambling because opinion seems to dictate he is not worth his draft selection 6 years ago.

Now some are calling for Foley to be traded for a first round pick:confused: IMO no club would be silly enough to do this for a player who was injury riddled this season and no guarantee in the long term.

But to play the silly game assuming we trade Foley for WC first pick (pick 4) and trade Tambling for Houli, give another pick for Sherman what have we really achieved in all this?
  • We get two players who in their best form have been fringe players at there current clubs (Sherman & Houli)
  • We lose a player who has all the skills and attributes to develop into a running outsider and was suffering injury and confidence issues this year but has shown in 08 that HE CAN PLAY (Tambling)
  • We lose an inside running goal kicking mid who has proven he can play (Foley)
  • We gain an unknown kid with "potential" at pick 4 (yes the same pick used for Tambling)
  • We lose another draft pick
Sorry but I can't see a whole lot of benefit here:thumbsd:

This board would go into meltdown next year when Foley & Tambling cuts it up and their new clubs whilst our new recruits play at Coburg one week.............. RFC the next.............Coburg the next...........etc

No point trading FOley in my opinion.
Due to injury, he is not worth enough. I don't think we'd get a lot for him.
And if he recapture fitness and form, then have a genuine B to B+ grade mid running around.
Best off just hanging onto him and hoping.
But if we could get something for him, then by all means, let's look at it.

I think Foley is great.

If Deep Throat is to be believed, and a 'big name' is being shopped around, then my guess is Foley is the one being shopped.

Perhaps we are doing another 'Jeff Hogg' which would be sad, but if his body is shot then it may be the pragmatic thing to do.

I am totally against the logic that he 'will not be part of our next premiership' based on him being 26 next year. That makes no sense at all.

Agree with McGun.
Only a VERY good offer. Pick 10-15 is not a VERY good offer.

I bet any money that all 6 of the players taken at picks 10 - 16 don't make it as top line players - or at least of Foley's level.

Taking into account the talent not available to be drafted this year (which are already GC bound) if we were to trade Foley to GC for say pick 5 then effectively it would be equivalent to pick 15 last year. Would you be happy with that then?

Likewise trading him to another club for a pick in the low teens.:thumbsd:

We have more to gain by retaining Foley than by trading him for a kid who may or may not turn out to have the talent of Foley. It's a risk I don't think our club can afford to take.

I just can't see why we have to trade? Don't we have any faith in the group we drafted last year or the ones to be drafted this year? If we were a top 8 side and needed some polish in a particular area then I can understand, but for a side that finnished 15th the last two years???
